I absolutely love that version of the mold and called it the ultimate version of G1 Prime. I expressed as much on here when it first came out and was roasted alive for loving an incorrect, hideous, anime accurate head on an inaccurate brick toy, lol. I would expect a similar reaction now.

If they'd released that version, the $50 would feel warranted as the only way to get the Music Label version is to spend $125+ on Ebay.

    This seems a bit condescending.

Looking back, I was wondering why I didn't buy that. Then I saw it had a $180 price tag at BBTS, which was nuts at the time. Too bad they didn't use the retooled head on Pepsi Convoy.

I caved and paid $22 for a collector condition Bumblebee at BBTS. Then about a month later Walmart decided to put them on shelves.

Walmart near me now has on their actual planogram a line of 4 pegs for G1 Legion assortment at $7.88.....preparing for Warpath and Gears perhaps and MAYBE an as yet unseen third/fourth minibot? Wishful thinking but one can hope. They also had a few swerves and one Bumblebee from the Christmas Bumblebee movie stackout. No other reissues on shelf but a location for Prime and a as yet unnamed transformer......Soundwave location? Did not have phone with me will take a pic later if anyone is interested.

Please do take a picture of the tag if it does indeed belong to soundwave on you’re next trip. This way we can confirm his SKU/UPC. Also do you happen to remember the price on the tag if it had one.

    Thanks in advance.

Hence my point. If one is willing to shell out $22 for a MOSC Bumblebee, why not $53 for a MISB Optimus Prime? Even without the cab, surely logic says that Optimus is worth twice a Bumblebee.

Because Hasbro pricing and scalper pricing are two different things. No one “wanted” to pay over $8 for a mini bot.

Try selling a toy at MSRP and watch that line blur.

It's what some people are willing to pay for it - therefore they indeed want to pay it. There is no "need" here...or if there is, we're straying into psychological issues.

Now, there are price preferences. I'd prefer to pay $35 for only a cab Optimus Prime. But I went ahead and paid full price - because I WANTED it.

You are confusing want and willing. I want the toys free. I was willing to pay more than MSRP. Want and willing are not equivalent.

The reason they didn't release his trailer has to do with the engineering costs. After they realized they were so far off with Starscreams FNn missle stems, they decided it would be too difficult and costly to try again with Prime's trailer missle launcher. It's just not possible to get it right with today's available technology at a fair cost.

I mean for as low priced as Hasbro offers these, you can't expect things to be right.

I had to pull out a vintage catalogue to show my 4 year old what stupidity and greed looks like by a toy company.

The thing of it is people sure seemed more than willing to pay through the nose for something they simply wanted. So the two factors tend to be relative.

I doubt that's the reason. Every reissue of Prime before now had the trailer, and every Hasbro release made changes to the launcher or missiles without care that it didn't match the original from the '80s. Had they put out the trailer this time, they probably would have just released it with smaller "more accurate" missiles again but with the (already weak anyway) springs gone so they couldn't be used.

The main factors for no trailer was limited shelf space from Wal-Mart and that desire to not go over that $50 price point so they can cycle in more reissues like Soundwave for the same price.

Saw G1 Prime in walmart today. It’s cool but I can’t bring myself to drop $50 on that particular toy. Nostalgia only opens my wallet so far.

If I buy a G1 Optimus now, it’s going to be like MP Prime version 3 or something like that.

I wish I can pay $50 for the cab only g1 prime, but with exchange and shipping factored in, I might as well pay the $70 canadian because it's so close, depending on the exchange rate of that day.
But like you nostalgia only gets me so far.
