If I have to choose I'll pick Megatron, but I'm a big Galvatron fan too. If we had more of not batshit crazy Galvatron I may have swung in that direction.

I like Galvatron better. Actually, I like everything post-movie better than anything pre-movie.

    I have to pick Galvatron!!!

For one, I think the name is cooler!

I also think Galvatron's design looks better in the G1 animation style.

Third, I think Galvatron's bulky cannon alternate mode looks better than the flimsy looking pistol pre-1986 Megatron transforms into.

Finally, I prefer the changes to Galvatron's personality. He is batshit insane. Megatron would have no problem clobbering mutineers and rivals, but Galvatron is so nuts he will beat up his most loyal troops. He is so insane that his mind literally overwhelms Torkulon, he is absolutely dedicated to destruction, and I love the relationship between Galvatron and Cyclonus. He is the type of leader his own Decepticons truly fear.

Same here and for the same reason as i prefer Galvatron: he's just a lot more colourfull.
pre-movie was like the writers and designers trying to create a Scifi cartoon while obeying certain rules and keeping it all grounded.
Post-movie was the writers and designers letting their creativity soar and really bring this franchise to outer space where it belongs.
I'm not saying that wasnt there in season 2 allready but post movie there where more creative designs and the writers just let go.
And Galvatron and his unhinged personality is a perfect representation of that.

Also, i would love to see more Galvatron and Beast Wars Megatron in contemporary fiction.
I just read "Not all Megatrons" yesterday and it was heavenly :)

Yep,they're both the same...I will vote for galvatron for being an insane leader who punch poor cyclonus in he's face for no reason...also killing he's sweeps  :D

I want to like Galvatron more, especially since I'm a bigger fan of the post-86 stuff, but he just doesn't really click with me. I feel like Marvel Megatron has a much more interesting struggle with his sanity than cartoon Galvatron ever did. Galvatron just came off more as a toddler throwing a fit than an evil warlord without a grip on reality.

Yeah they never did him justice or knew what to do with him post-movie. He was laughably stupid in S3, made no sense from one episode to the next, then in Headmasters he was less crazy but even more incompetent and became comic relief along with Scourge and Cyclonus. Three hardcore warriors, the baddest of the bad reduced to bumbling idiots who trip over each other like some comedy duos from the silent film era. Sadly making villains dumb and useless in an overdone trope in Japanese super-robot manga. Sometimes it works and is genuinely funny, like Time Bokkan or Exkaiser, and some of the 70's anime stuff- but most of the time it's just lame.

Chose Galvatron. Liked how he was presented in the U.K. comic stories better than the cartoon. He was smart and a pure engine of destruction the way he kept whooping Ultra Magnus's ass.

Yeah, then they get buried under/in a volcano - pretty bad ass.

hey, here is something cool I just found last night on youtube, I assume it's from one of the DVD special features for the movies, so some of you here might have seen it before. But I have not seen any of the "extras" on the various TF movie releases yet, so here is Ultra Magnus being literally ripped apart by Sweeps (same way they used to do with four horses in the old west) while Galvatron laughs.
    Pretty gruesome scene kids!

Galvatron, easily. Megatron was a fun character, don't get me wrong, but he was way too inept in both the Sunbow cartoon and the Marvel comics, never winning against the Autobots and never giving the traitorous Starscream the boot. It got to the point where, in the comics, Shockwave beat him into submission and took over as leader. Heck, I think there were twice as many Decepticon leaders in the comics at least because Megatron could never keep his hold on leadership. When he came back as Galvatron, he had no tolerance for traitors like Starscream and vaporized him on the spot. Whatever he did to Scourge at the end of The Burden Hardest To Bare, he definitely convinced Scourge not to try anything again. In the comics, he was a nigh-unstoppable powerhouse, being able to take on anyone from Optimus Prime to Death's Head to Ultra Magnus. When he went insane, I thought he became more fun, and had more of a reason for his ineptitude.

Always preferred Megatron because I despise "crazy" bad guys. I know Megatron wasn't the most stable of villains, but he was leagues more rational than Galvatron

I think that when it comes to Megatron, you have to look past s1 and s2 of the original cartoon. He was inept because that's how they had to write him. The purpose of the s1 and s2 was to sell toys to children, not flush out what Megatron could truly be as a character. This is why TF the movie is truly where Megatron shines and this is the Megatron I cling too. What he does in killing autobots and out maneuvering Prime is the true face of Megatron and killing Prime by any means necessary, even cheating. In the cartoon he had what 8 or 9 troops in s1? The autobots had what like 20-25? He basically couldn't kill starscream, no matter how treasonous he was. They were already out numbered, it would have been dumb to lessen his numbers even more. Galvatron had his new troops and what was left of lots of decepticons, and starscream had just left him for dead. Killing him made sense at that point. I think if we had movie Megatron all along and he had more decepticons from the start, Megatron himself would have killed starscream long ago. So with Galvatron essentially being Megatron, just remade it's kinda like they are the same person. And there really is no point to choosing between the two. If Galvatron remembers being Megatron and has Megatrons memories, we aren't talking about two different beings, the same one who changed his name. It's kinda like when IDW Megatron got the stealth body, if he would have changed his name, what would be different than Megatron going to Galvatron in the movie? I'm just saying there is no picking between the two when they are the same person regardless of what they are called. Again s3 where Galvatron was insane is more of that we are writing him to be this way because we can't let loose of what he can really be, they were again trying to sell toys, movie Galvatron was not insane. See what we really need is a Transformers series that really flushes out these characters and isn't doing it to sell toys, but to tell an actual story. Difference in Star Wars and TF is Star Wars is a story that can sell toys, while TF stories only exist to sell toys. Makes a huge difference in how characters are written.

I kinda agree. But i aint nuts about the star wars franchise, so if we ever get what you want i hope they aim higher.
