I was going to PM you to buy that Slugfest, but after talking to a mutual acquaintance, and taking a closer look at the pics, I'm pretty sure that it's a KO. I'd say you might have been misinformed, but considering that you and Vrawr have at least 9 of the supposed 11 that exist... I'm pretty sure you know what you're doing.

    From your pics:

Notice that the real Slugfest uses screws that have a rounded top, while the clear one uses screws with a flat top. If these were indeed made in the same factory, at the same time, as the originals wouldn't they have used the same screws instead of going out of their way to find different screws?

The rivets are different. Notice the real Slugfest uses rivets with rounded edges, while the clear one has a more angular edge around the center. Also the smaller rivets are clearly of a lower quality than the real one.

There's also a screw missing. Ordinarily I would just dismiss this as a miss assembly, but in the pic I seen of them all together, they were missing on all 8 of them.

It's hard to tell in your pics, but it also appears that the C with the circle around it for the copyright stamp is different. The circle looks thicker on the original.

Also the molded line that I highlighted is slightly off. It should end before the tip of the tail, whereas it ends after the tip on the clear one. This also causes the spacing between the line & the Macau stamp to be different between the two.

Not to mention that some of the Soundwave KO's on eBay can clearly be seen to include clear versions of Slugfest.

Lunchtime special? Maybe. Knock Off? Probably. Vintage? Absolutely not man. Clear plastic that is 30+ years old should show at least a slight bit of yellowing with age... one maybe two may be in good condition, but all 9 (this one plus the 8 that Vrawr has) should not be in pristine condition.

Well played man, you almost got me for $200. I have no issue with KO's, but I do have an issue with someone trying to sell something as something it's not and take advantage of people.

Just fyi. For what it's worth. Seller responded and said Soundwave in listing comes with condor/laserbeak. And indicated photo was a stock photo. Not sure stock from where though....

Sidnote: I had mine up on ebay (that I bought back in 2012), that took down until gethe more info/clarity

It seems a bit much to imply I'm trying to mislead or take advantage of people. I provided pictures and clearly laid out all the evidence available for buyers to make their own informed judgement. You disagree with my conclusion and have opted not to buy; which is an entirely valid choice. Good for you! And, as Mellowmut has pointed out, the boxed Slugfest is of unknown origin and is apparently unavailable.

Legitimacy aside, the fact that Vrawr has circulated pictures like this clearly makes those two statements contradictory.

Not all the evidence bro, just the evidence that supports your claims. You expect me to believe that you went through all the trouble to compare these with every stamping variation, but never bothered to look at things like the screws or rivets? Or even molding differences? These are pretty standard things to look at when trying to check the legitimacy of a figure. Especially when you are claiming that these are "vintage" and made from the same mold as the vintage Takara figure.

It's also very convenient that all of the comparison shots you've provided are small and blurry/grainy, while the pictures of the figure by itself are nice and big/crisp.

Granted you were very careful with your wording, but you went out of your way to make it hard for someone to come to any other conclusion.

That's all I've done, but with the converse opinion... granted there is a sprinkling of "butt-hurt fanboy" on it, but it boils down to the same thing.

Just because this particular seller is using a "stock photo" and doesn't have any that include Slugfest, doesn't change the fact that these can clearly been seen to be available with at least a few KO Soundwaves. So shouldn't that supposed "11 known to exist" be changed to at least 12? And I can tell you from experience that Chinese factories rarely do production runs of less than 500 units, unless they're for something like internal testing. That's why things like the Black & Grey Dino Cassettes, and Black & White Devy sets were limited runs of 500.

For those of you who have purchased one, check the return address on your package; is it from Canada or Ohio?

    Should I keep going bro?

To be honest, I hadn't noticed the mold differences you pointed out. Even after, it took me a bit to see what you meant. As for the screws and rivets, I didn't ascribe as much importance to them as the base mold. I don't know how factories work; someone assembling a few of these figures by hand in their spare time might not know or care to bother picking the proper hardware for the figure. I offered what few conclusions I could reach about the figure after conferring with others. It's entirely possible the conclusions are wrong, which is the reason for detailing the reasoning behind them in the first place. If I'm wrong, so be it.

I actually welcome your detailed analysis, if not your manner in relaying it, because the figure's provenance is a mystery. It could be a prototype (though unlikely), vintage or modern, lunchtime special or KO. You're right that, seeing the picture with a trans Slugfest in a box may bump up the known quantity from 11 to 12, though we don't know if the one in the pic is an additional one or one of the known eleven; no way to tell since we don't yet know who took the picture or when. You're also right that KO runs aren't usually so small. If there were 500 of these floating around, it would likely have been seen and be better known among cassette collectors than it is. The fact that so little is known about it seems to preclude a KO origin.

So it's either a lunchtime special inexpertly assembled, a inexplicably small KO run or something else entirely. We've supplied what info/research we could. At this point let any interested buyer make their own decision. I don't think any further back and forth in this thread is helpful or appropriate. I'd ask you to keep it civil and PM me if you want to discuss it further. Thanks.
