I thought it was an alias name or something due to Jazz having such a military role in the past, and not wanting to draw too much attention to it during the race, as per part of his retirement or something.

No current toys for sale meant background character status.

That's one of the reasons that I never really considered Jazz to be Optimus's second in command.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I could have sworn one of the writers (Flint?) stated that he had wanted to use Jazz and Cliffjumper more but the edict that came down the pipe was to focus on the new toys instead of the old.

I believe the reason Jazz won the race in FFOD but was called someone else entirely was because the animation studio was going off old character models for various bots (or do you think they meant to include as many Insecticons, Shockwaves, and other dead characters?) and no one caught the error.

I'm not sure why they would show one race and give the dialogue for another race. That makes zero sense.

Clearly they had to save screen-time for Hubcap...

the dialog was given after the race, so i always felt it was a time elapse event, meaning that when they changed scenes, time had moved up a few hours

Sounds fun. I'd like to read that. Do you (or anyone else) remember the name of that one?

Unlike Jazz and Cliffjumper, his toy was still being sold in 1986. Same for Bumblebee, Blaster, and the Dinobots.

not as old as Jazz and Cliffy.........they were season 1/1984 figures

Preceptor was a season 2/1985 figure, and he was still in toy stores in season 3/1986

Tracks, Smokescreen, Hoist, Grapple, Red Alert, Beachcomber, Cosmos, Inferno, Omega Supreme, Seaspray were all part of the same year Perceptor's came out, and they all disappeared out of the blue.

first...., please dont take this as confrontational....may I ask what point are you trying to make?
Preceptor, Beachcomber, Cosmos, Omega Supreme, and Seaspray DID NOT "disappear out of the blue", they were all seen in season 3 [list below]. All of them along with Bumblebee,Blaster and the 5 Dinobots were still being sold in 1986, they were in that years catalog.

Tracks, Smokescreen, Hoist, Grapple, Red Alert and Inferno were not being sold in 1986, they were not in that years catalog..........and neither was Jazz oir Cliffjummper

second...when was the last time you saw season 3?

Cosmos had parts in season 3 episodes "5 Faces of Darkness pt4 and "Grimlocks new brain"

Omega Supreme had a part in the season 3 episode "The Big Broadcast of 2006" and mentioned in "Grimlock's New Brain"

Seaspray was in season 3's Thief in the Night

Beachcomber....funny thing about him, he was seen being dropped into the acid tanks in unicrons stomach, but he was also in the season 3 episode "5 faces of darkness pt5"

Grapple was seen at the battle of autobot city in the film

Smokescreen & Red Alert ...... The original storyboards for The Transformers: The Movie depict a death scenes for both Smokescreen and Red Alert. Granted they were not included in the finished film but it kind of explains why the writers did not use them.

Inferno's name is seen the voice actors credits at the end of the film, but he was never bin it.

Tracks also seen in the storyboards but got no love in the film or season 3.

There's no trap to fall into here, Darkstream - some toys from 1984 and 1985 were still being sold in 1986, and they were in season 3; most toys from 1984 and some from 1985 were NOT being sold in 1986, and they WEREN'T in season 3. It's that simple.
