After reading the boards on other lines like PCC and WFC figures; I've seen a lot of this: "as long as it doesn't slow the generations line, I'm ok with it." That kind of thing. I grew up on G1 being born in 1983 so I'm not a G1 hater. However when does G1 homages become stale or too much?

I started collected all the Classics then as the line went away for the first movie only to reappear with a green Starscream I stopped with the initial wave. Then as the line kept going with just flat out repaints of figures from other lines I grew sick of it.

So now is the catch-22: have new/modernized versions of classic characters (Thrust, Hound w/ a great Ravage) or have just flat out new figures (WFC BB and Prime). IMO having those modernized versions of old characters is a step back in the line's progression. Having only four figures in the WFC IMO is a huge gap in stylistic design, and I believe it is because of the demand to have a new version of Goldbug or Skidz or whatever G1 character.

Like the Animated design; WFC and the movie is a step forward in TF design, while rehashes of old designs are a stagnant point. I'm not trashing anyone's love for G1 Generations (everyone has likes and dislikes), but I am at a loss at the affinity for those over figures like Drift and WFC stuff.

It's "at a loss," not "at a lost."

To each his own, I like some variety and I would not think having G1 inspired designs is a reversal in the progression of Transformers. Its just one part, they use the latest tech to make them more screen accurate, pose able, ect... It's all good!

Why wouldn't Hasbro listen to its fans and produce and sell things that will actually sell? They're in the business of selling toys. If they know it'll sell and make a profit they'll make it. Just because you don't like the G1 homages doesn't mean others don't. For you there is the other stuff like the WFC figures and PCC you mentioned. Hasbro has actually gone out if its way to try to cater to a lot of fans wants. They have movie figures out for movie fans. They have the G1 homages you mentioned for G1 fans. They have new stuff like WFC for fans of new transformers styles... what's there to complain about?? Its a win win situation.

Let me ask your opinion. Is Darkmount a step forward or a step back? How about Terradive?

I really don't see how "Then as the line kept going with just flat out repaints of figures from other lines I grew sick of it." translates into I'm sick of G1 Homages.

I also do not see how you can say Animated (while stylized) isn't just more updated G1.

Based on those statements I'm not sure you even know what it is that you want.

Was there a Darkmount figure to rehash, if not then he is an entirely new figure. I don't remember Terradive, but does the G1 character resemble the Generations figure at all or is it just in name? They can't be a step back if the first step never happened.

What I'm saying if given the choice for a spot in the Generations line between a G1 version of a character or another version of the character I would pick the ladder. ROTF Bludgeon is a reinvention of a G1 character while if a modern G1 Bludgeon with Pretender shell were to be released in the Generations line; that would be a step back. Though I get the feeling everyone would want to buy it because it came with a Pretender shell.

I will readily buy a Generation Bludgeon, be him with/without a Pretender shell. :)

I wouldn't say Classics designs are a step-back from WFC & PCC engineering. Yes Classics 1.0 figures are a little simpler compared to Classics 3.0 (compare Bumblez & Prime to Straxus) but there's no way I could look at them in a negative light :lol . I'd rather have a whole line dedicated to Classics figures but you get what you're given. *shrugs*

well, write a letter to Hasbro and tell them that each figure they made for you, they can send to my house instead.

the CHUG figures are not a step back. You really can look at TFU Inferno and call that a rehash? Classics/TFU Seekers took leaps and bounds forward. they took an 84 seeker and perfected it.

even the worst case scenarios in the current lines, (talking to you Galvatron) Hasbro let us see they were putting a sincere effort into them.
i don't buy my CHUG's because they are a homage to the G1; i buy them because they are damn fine designs.

I don't see where 25+ years of engineering advances (closer to 30 when you consider the Diaclone origin) becomes a step back.

New toys of old characters that we grew up on. What is so difficult in that?

So, by your logic, the only way for the Transformers brand to move forward is to only release new characters, and never make new versions of older characters, yet you're alright with some, as long as you like the mold? I just...don't get it.

Well, I personally am for them. Generations is a mix of the WFC toys and continuing the Classics series. Straxus is a G1 character, and thanks to Generations he finally gets a toy (called Darkmount after his base for trademark reasons). Even new guys in the G1 continuity family get a crack at toyhood, such as Drift. I don't mind seeing the G1 updates and toys for the once-toyless filling it in place of WFC figures, because that continuity is getting its own cartoon and inevitably its own toyline. Here's two of the best things in Generations: Classics-body upgrades for Thrust and Dirge. They're mass retail and on top of that they're improvements on the Botcon 2007 exclusives. One can only hope Thundercracker will also get a Generations release. We're also getting an updated Blurr, in the form of a Drift retool, and ideally Kup and Arcee will follow. Especially Arcee. I say bring it on.

Indeed! What do you remember exactly about G1 SoljaRTT?..Just out of curiosity.

To each their own though. I think the whole Mutant Space-bug/ Space-ape from Planet X movie designs are hideous, and reek of being by-products of a desperately insecure ego that just couldn't resist adding in little homages to himself with his obsession for flaming meteors.

Oops, I was ranting there wasn't I! Sorry bout that!

I digress...As far as I'm concerned, every year must boast a nod to G1! Gotta respect the Roots, baby! :thumb

Oh, and why is everybody bringing up that he was born in '83? I was born in '93 and I'm a huge G1 fan. It's not like you had to be there at that time to see it or buy the toys. *shrug*
