I actually like them. If nothing else, they were cool novelty figures that differed from the transformers norm (and their gimmick is actually kind of similar to PCC's in a strange way). This, and the fact that they can be had cheap makes them worth grabbing IMO.
They're not the greatest toys, but they're fun in a quirky sort of way. If you can pick them up at a reasonable price - like say $30 for the set or that region - they're worth it. Just make sure that the springs and tabs are good, so the mechanisms lock and release correctly.
I had Battletrap as a kid so when I dug out all my old TFs a number of years ago and started going through what I wanted to collect from G1, I decided I'd look for Flywheels in order to have the pair. They are kinda cool little TFs and yes the transformation is unique but really unless you really want most or all G1, they are an easy pass. That being said, if you like them, then yes they are worth it to pick up.
personally I think they are worse than Runamuk/Runabout(I actually like those two), only get them if they are cheap(I would say no more than $10) My favorite among the "unpopular" g1 toys would be Doublecross, great toy if you are into monsters/dragons.
Im trying to complete the two myself, but only because I ended up with the top halves from a large lot I picked up at a garage sale and its been driving me nuts to have these two torsos just hanging around. I think they're a nifty little gimmick, kind of like the great-grandparents of the Power Core Combiners
I like them and feel they're worth having as long as you're planning to make them pose a lot. I kinda wish Hasbro would make something like Duocons again (I don't feel PCCS are it yet) and have two vehicles combine to make one robot (more articulated than they were in G1 of course) and then people could buy various pairs and mix and match them. But then other people would complain that the individual vehicles must have robot modes of their own as well as combining into one robot.
These guys are probably my two favorite "unpopular" guys, especially Flywheels. I loved them both as a kid. Sure, their articulation is horrendous and their vehicals are blah and not very detailed, but I've always found them fun. I'd say get them--I don't think they're usually that expensive and it's not a big deal if they are missing their weapon. As an aside, I'd love for a Generations update of these guys.
At first, I only got them for the sake of a complete G1 collection. However, they did grow on me. For some reason, I think their names got switched at some point. They seem to fit better the other way around.
2 in one. Yeah, I have them. I got them as a kid on vacation in North Dakota. They aren't much to look at, or play with, but if you can get them for a good price, I'd say get them. They have a special place in my heart.
i have them, i feel like Battletrap, needs an extra gun though, for the other side in robot mode, i just feel like it would look better with two, rather then one. so that's my only suggestion. and they are not bad toys. i wouldn't spend much more then $10 on each, and Ten would be awfully high lol how ever, i do like the Tank and jet one, at very least the Tank is nice to place on trypticon edit; now they are NOT worth anything NEAR the price bbts is selling it for, *Flywheels, for $50* wtf bbts? just WTF?
i don't know, i always thought battle trap, was named battle trap, for being a "trap" as they look like ordinary vehicles, until they combine, and then pop up, being the trap lol it'd be hard for flywheels, to be a trap, when they are both military vehicles.
