So I touched this guy up a little to make him look nice and accurate before this; didn't look bad at all, but putting him on the shelf, there's just so many monochromatic Decepticons in the Bayverse - I said, "fuck it, I'm painting someone. Y'all muthafuckas need visual contrast." Decided to go with Soundwave, as I wanted to do a pre-existing colorscheme so it didn't look out of place and G1 Soundwave's got a sexy, classy colorscheme. Don't post pics very often because I know my pics suck, but I was inspired by @Gladky's own custom to do a little shoot of this guy. I painted his car mode and part of the shoulders a deep, metallic blue lacquer and did the head in a lighter blue because I couldn't find any metallic dark blue in acrylic and I believe lacquer paint isn't good for rubber parts. Hard to see in the pics, but it doesn't look bad in person. Might do the hands in the lighter blue just to make it look like an intentional two-toned blue colorscheme. Painted the space between his eyes red to give the illusion of a full visor, and made his speakers silver with red rims to homage the silver arms with red "wristbands" of G1 Soundwave. Did the frame of the grill in gold to homage the tapedeck door, and also the Mercedes emblems in gold for some bling. Molotow chrome for the headlights, gas caps, and mirrors, then just some gunmetal and silver here and there, with gold, copper, and black for minor details. Laserbeak just got a spray of metallic gray, probably gonna add more to him later on. I gave him a rifle too, (Titans Return Soundwave's, in fact) but he can barely hold it with his stupid rubber hands. Painted just like him though. Wanted to give him SS-22 Dropkick's weapons so they'd look like his G1 battery guns, but he literally can't hold them for shit and there's no good way to mount one on his shoulders, so the rifle is good enough by comparison. Enough talk though, on with the photos! Spoiler: Older pics Thanks for looking, tell me what you think!
Holy shit it looks like RID Soundwave! The metallic blue is especially gorgeous... never knew it fit this mold (and design) so well
That's a very cool paint job. Greart work! Nice to see other cool variants of blue SS Soundwave idea. It looks so much better than boring silver. I see that we had a similar idea for this figure in many places . In the future I advise you to put a figure a bit more in the back and use daylight. It will compliment your work much better than such close shots in very focused light.
I'll try and take some daytime pictures farther back soon, maybe at a park. Thanks for the positive words too.
I actually have a place in mind - a little forest outside my first elementary school - but I don't know if a sunset shot would work, or if it's even open with this virus crisis. But a sunset shoot would be gorgeous, so I'll try.
New pics up! Rainy day today, so I couldn't take him out to the forest, but my balcony was lit well enough, I think. Paper towel background because the balcony's a mess. Hope these look better! Testors "One Coat" Lacquers "Deja Blue;" (and Folkart Blue Sapphire for the head because I needed an acrylic paint for rubber) It's a very deep, pure blue, only looked purple in the old pics because I'm a shit photographer with no clue what he's doing with a camera. Kinda wanna make a purple Soundwave now though, to homage Marvel G1 Soundwave's colorscheme...
Uh, in the old pics the blue looked color shifting/changing. Like it's a purple and shifts to blue (or the other way round ).
He looks great, well done! That classic Soundwave paint scheme really brings out his personality. (Also, am I the only one that now sees a motorcycle rider stuck to Soundwave's tummy?!)
