This isnt my regular art and i havent posted any of my regular transformers art (i will soon, actually!)
But.. Someone on alt.toys mentioned wanting a true brick G1 Arcee. So i tried my hand at one. Im no engineer and i have zero experience designing toys.. So im pretty sure anyone who sees this can come up with some better ways to make this design work. I tried to be accurate to the cartoon while keeping the alt mode all used. No shell forming basically.

I love the concept. I'm guessing nostalgia makes redesigns less popular, but I find them really interesting. I suppose sometimes the idea gets popular with things like Classic G1 versions of modern TFs like movie Barricade. Perhaps execution matters. People are always more impressed with well-polished results vs the description of an idea.

You could give her a double-jointed knee and have the thicker part on top instead of on bottom, and optionally use the part that forms the rear of the alt mode that you had put on her back could be used as her thighs, though I guess that's avoiding the "brick" look.
but I still think there's a lot of options to keep it looking very retro without having to make it as chunky as possible.
I thought I remembered someone doing a custom of G1 Blurr into Arcee, but I don't exactly remember it being the one I found in my recent search results. Either way, there's one example.

Thanks for your feedback! I have no nostalgia for anything because i joined the fandom after CW toyline. I think this makes me pretty nonbiased. Probably why i love new ideas and new designs so much (of course like you said when executed well). Not gonna lie im pretty fed up with the same old G1 stuff we keep getting.

The person on alt.toys mentioned a true g1 engineering design...So i didnt try to do anything too crazy like ive seen on some of my generations toys. Its a weird balance to keep! I was just thinking.. what would the designers of those diaclone toys do... which was honestly difficult. Maybe if i was an engineer... but your idea with double hinges is pretty good.
Ive had some G1 toys but not too many and they all WEAR their alt mode, utilizing some car parts as body parts (example: prowl).

I can see this being what an actual G1 Arcee toy would've looked like in the 80's
