This thread is got early G1, which were based on real cars.planes/etc. Movie Megs will be an alien jet, with no real-world counterpart.

I think the Jester's TF photoshops had the best live version of the G1 alt modes.

It's obvious that most of the original G1 vehicle modes were based on real vehicles... but what the hell is Skyfire based on? I have yet to ever see a jet that looks like that. It was way cool in the cartoon, but when looking at the scale of it, it's almost designed like an SUV of the skies. Small cockpit but huge bulky body that probably could never fly in real life.

The cartoon version ("Skyfire") was heavily redesigned so it could appear on the show, since the toy was a borrowed mold from another toy line/show also airing at that time (Robotech). There really isn't a real-world counterpart for "Skyfire," but for Jetfire, read on....

The G1 toy Jetfire was a slightly modified version of the Valkyre/Veritech design from Macross/Robotech (Roy Fokker's VF-1S, I believe), which is itself based on a modified version of the Grumman F-14 Tomcat.

Check out this website for pictures of an F-14 and see what you think:

I'm pretty sure he's based on a jet that the military has kept secret...or something.

anybody have any luck with Soundwave? I'm beginning to think he was some kind of generic bastardization of all recorders from the early 70s.

Just find a pic of an old 80s mini-cassette player and you'll find Soundwave. My older sister had one of them. I wish I could find it and compare it to my G1 Soundwave. But he's definately the inspiration. Those mini cassettes are also about the same size as Ratbat, Ravage, and the others.
