Oroku Saki is feared throughout the world as the leader of the dreaded Foot Clan. When Cobra was in its infant stages, Cobra Commander was presented with the option of aligning himself to the Foot, in the form of the Shredder, or to the Arishikage, in the form of Storm Shadow. By choosing the latter, Cobra Commander made a grave enemy. Now aligned with the evil Krang from Dimension X, the Shredder strikes out at both Cobra and GI Joe alike from the confines of his fortress of death: The Technodrome. Little does the Commander know that two of Storm Shadows’ students, Slice and Dice, are actually double agents for the Foot… The Shredder is a labor of love and truly the first custom I have ever made. I have always wanted an ARTICULATED Shredder. Most of the parts were created some time ago when I had painted an Armored Cobra Commander, but when I found the DG Storm Shadow, I knew I had my ideal body. To be fair, the Retaliation Ninja model features better articulation and aspects, like the leg and arm areas, that are better designed for the Shredder’s needs, but I am more than content with the Renegades body. I decided to paint him up like TMNT 2: Secret of the Ooze. If I wanted the original movie/ original comic, the Red Ninja body without much modification would suffice rather well! My recipe is as follows: Mask: Armored Cobra Commander mask, The Doctor’s breathing mask (Originally it was removable, but I decided I didn’t particularly care for the feature so I glued it), and Wolverine Origins Deadpool's sai. Head: The Doctor with painted hair. Body: Renegades Storm Shadow/DG Storm Shadow Shoulder armor: Accelerator Suit Duke Arm Gauntlets: Arctic Storm Shadow from ROC Wrist Blades: Desert Storm Shadow from POC Various Blades: Various Cobra and GI Joe Knives Cape: Darth Vader He still retains all of his articulation, even with the glued on knives and shoulder pads. He is in a very good scale with the Technodrome (pics when I get home) and looks pretty nice next to the new TMNT, especially Mikey (they are Mutants, they can be a bit taller than him), and Kraang (who is my Krang, which also looks nice with the Technodrome).
Thank you both. Yes I am aware he only has two, but the part of Storm Shadow's accessories that I utilized was a tri pronged set and if I removed the middle, odds are the stability would decrease immensely and would run the risk of losing the blades. If you want to get picky technically Shredder also has a skirt and wears a one piece outfit as opposed to a purple gi over a black undershirt or contents two sets of blades on his arm gauntlets. Call it artistic license if you will
Neat. Tonight he dines on turtle soup, THIS I COMMAND. You could have also used Sigma Six (especially Shouri Crossbow version) Storm Shadow, who is basically the Shredder anyway. Hell, there were so many awesome ninja-references in the Sigma Six ninja toys I lost count.
Oh yeah, Hasbro likes to make nods all over the place. That is part of the reason why I included Temple Training Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow in the picture. Their body SCREAMS The Shredder. Look at the mask, shoulders, how the arms and legs are sculpted...it is a G3 Shredder in the making. And thank you both too! I might have painted Transformers before but this is the first time I have ever gluded and utilized parts together to create a whole new figure. The closest I have came to this was ripping out Major Bludd's helmet and gluing The Doctors hair that I discarded with this to make him helmetless. Your kind words mean a lot to me.
Well here are some pictures with Shredder, some ninjas representing my Foot Clan (aka Storm Shadows of the past) until I can score a few of the Dark Ninjas from Retaliation, Krang (with a comparison to the nostalgic body to boot!), and the new Turtles outside (and inside) a yellowing Technodrome! If the Turtles were all the size of Mikey, the size difference would not be noticeable but it can be a bit hard to swallow with Leo. That said, they are mutant turtles. Who cares how tall they are?
