Some things don't make sense in context of the series or characters. These problems apply more for fictional characters as their abilities cannot be fully realized.
    • Say in a fictional franchise like Marvel every character has their own power levels. For example Thanos has a cosmic power level, while someone like Luke Cage has a street level power. However, due to balancing, you too can beat the entirety of the Ultimate Alliance series using only Luke Cage. That means... Luke Cage can beat up Dr. Doom, Loki, Ultron, Thanos, Mephisto, and even Galactus, if he tries hard enough...
    • In Jaws: Unleashed you play as a shark, duh. In one of the missions Jaws has to get an I.D. to escape from a room. Might as well chat by the water cooler while he at it. This is the only reason I created the thread.
    • Watch as in the Injustice franchise of games Catwoman beats the shit out of Superman.
    • In the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Eggman frequently is shown to outrun the fastest thing alive.
    • In the Silver Surfer NES game Silver Surfer dies just by touching walls. Which is insulting as he can phase through walls.
    • Deadpool can die.
    • The Invisible Woman can fly. In some Marvel games she can't, but in others Invisible Woman is shown flying.
    • Crash Bandicoot getting... dizzy? Now I'm confused.

In Persona 5, you have the option to romance characters, among them being a teacher, several party members, and your surrogate father's daughter. You are never directly confronted about it at any point in the game, and even in the Valentine's day event the only thing you actually get in trouble for is dating multiple women at once.

Phoenix Wright can defeat Galactus in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 with a legal suit. Or just get Maya Fey to trip into him and knock him out cold.

Marvel vs. Capcom typically has no power tier warping storyline nonsense like Mortal Kombat vs. DC used to justify its matchups.

In Monster Hunter, you can kill a creature with methods that really shouldn't even tickle it. My favorite example is Lavasioth, a creature that literally coats itself in and drinks lava, getting killed via luring it into a patch of small fires :lol

every "Star Wars" flying game: the only way to stop an AT-AT is by tying its legs up.

Even on missions where you fly other ships with missiles that easily destroy or heavily damage every other enemy target in the games.

The AT-AT is only ever vulnerable to rope.

In Breath of the Wild, Link weighs approximately 3 lbs.
In case you forgot, Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Link weighs less than nine apples

To be fair, the games don't really present Sonic as the "Fastest Thing Alive"--just very, very fast. I don't think they're beholden to claims made by the Saturday morning cartoon theme song ;)

Also, any game where you're some sort of overpowered and/or super trained and skilled professional that can't climb a foot-tall barrier.

Jurassic Park for Game Boy in '93. Sometimes you can get 2 or 3 dinos to stack in the same space, and when you shoot 'em the same shot kills both AND you get the ammo drop for both. Rinse and repeat and you have free full ammo load...

Here's a personal favorite: You can have space to carry 100 items at once, except when you have missions that requires you to carry something with your hands leaving you open to everything.

A sister thing: You can carry the heaviest thing in your inventory and your weight won't be affected, but once you equip it then all of a sudden you get heavy.

Well the mushrooms in Mario are based on a real world mushroom called "Amanita Muscaria." Which is a poisonous mushroom that causes the user to hallucinate growing larger or smaller.
So... the mushrooms in Mario are basically drugs.

Games where you can just barge into people's houses and they don't treat you like an intruder.
Most RPG games NPCs have this weird opinion about home invasion.

On a related note, Legend of Dragoon's infuriating inventory system.

In the game, you are restricted to carrying 15 maximum field/battle-use items. Healing salves, poultices, medicine vials, grenades, whatever. Surely your team of hardy adventurers could stock more than five freakin' leaves each on their person. These types of items drop like candy in the game, and every time you go over your limit at the end of battle, you have to enter a menu to discard a trove of shit.

Adding insult to injury, though, is that your equipment inventory is separate, and you can carry a maximum of 255 items there. So yup, can cart around an armory worthy of outfitting a town militia, but can't carry a few extra rolls of bandages. Double insult being that, because equipment in the game is so expensive, you'll probably be selling all of your obsolete equipment at the earliest opportune moment. So it's rare that you'll ever need even five of those 255 slots.

For that matter, why do dinosaurs drop ammunition in the first place? Are they packing heat?

    It's also potentially lethal.

I used to assume it was a reference to Alice in Wonderland, especially since Miyamoto has said that Link was partially inspired by Peter Pan (a character from the same era of English literature and who also starred in a classic Disney film). But he's gone on record to say that the mushroom thing comes from Japanese folktales--apparently there are a lot of stories that begin with someone going into the woods to pick mushrooms (directly referenced in Link's Awakening), after which very strange things happen. There's some evidence for this in the games, since stories of tanukis being able to fly and using leaves to transform themselves (hence tanuki and racoon Mario) is another common feature of Japanese folktales about people who live near the woods. Bowser similarly is probably a kappa (hence, "Kuppa/Koopa")--a common type of river monster that is often depicted as resembling a biped turtle man.

Of course, we can surmise why mushroom hunting might lead to "strange things happening" so ultimately it is sort of a drug reference. Just not directly.

That anyone is able to live an active, fulfilling life (or even live at all) after being on the receiving end of Zangief's Final Atomic Buster is a complete mystery. To say nothing of the frequent immolations and other body breaking abuse.

To say nothing of the far more crippling attacks in Mortal Kombat, although I think there's frequently supernatural bullshit going on there that kinda sorta justifies it.

    In numerous long-running franchises:
"Hey wait, all my cool shit and abilities I earned in the previous game are gone!"

Modern games might introduce a half-assed explanation, but older games just mysteriously nerfed the protagonist between episodes with no explanation. Mega Man Legends 2 pokes fun at this when you discover that Roll sold all your gear while you weren't looking. :D
