They do that. But even with a lot of the grain and dirt removed, a movie from the 1940s will still look like a film from the 1940s. I rented the FANTASTIC "Adventures of Robin Hood" on BluRay (one of the best films EVER) and while it did look fantastic, a fair amount of grain was present and some of the lighting was still unbalanced. In my opinion, that's what helps make some of the old films so charming. They DON'T look overly processed. The classics had to perform real magic to show effects, and the actors had to sell their performances, rather than stand in front of a blue screen and have ILM add everything. People used to be fans of actors.

My grandparents remember going to movies to see the latest Errol Flynn picture, just to see him. Same thing with James Cagney. No one does that these days. Few actors have the charisma to bring an audience with them.

A friend of mine in London saw a press screening, and he said that there are a lot more Transformers scenes, and the human scenes have been cut down tremendously, but there are a lot more of the "lingering driving scenes" of vehicles. Technically, those are transformers, too, but wouldn't count as special effects time. My friend also comments that the Decepticons get 60% of screen time, Autobots get 25% with humans getting the crumbs.

Also, anyone hoping that Bay ditched the shakeycam... sorry, just as blurry as before, but Bay will toss in a rare medium/long shot, plus there are a few more of the slowmo shots.

    Anyway...

:jawdropper:  Interesting and informative info, but I'm sure all of us were going to see this movie anyway, info or not, both in the theater and IMAX.
That being said, holy cow, the CGI folks did put in tons of time on this one.
    Way to go!!:thumb
