Massive quake just hit in Fukushima Japan area. Shockwaves being felt in Tokoyo, tsunamis expected, evacuation alerts issued. Tokoyo, Japan earthquake: 7.3 magnitude quake strikes off Fukushima - tsunami warning issued
Hope people are able to get to safety, nature is just not kind sometimes. Looks like Baba Vanga just got a second chance..
My wife and I didn't feel the quake at all this morning but a co-worker said he was woken up by it (we're in Tokyo). Looks like the quake was downgraded to a 6.9. Still, it must've been scary for the folks in Fukushima and hope the damage was minimal. They've been through enough already. We (my then-fiancee was still living in Aichi while I was stationed in Korea) remember the fear and panic when the March 11th, 2011 quake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster hit and the media blackout that occurred inside Japan at the time.
They're still recovering from the last one. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, and I hope as many people as possible survived.
So this was an aftershock of the 2011 quake and the Tsunami's were not that sevre. The warnings have been lifted. You can see the Tsunami wave going up a river here: Starts at about 25 seconds.
Japan can't catch a break. I'm afraid that when the big one hits in CA, it's going to be completely disastrous. I just hope I'm home when it happens and not at work in a high rise.
Be prepared, not scared is my motto when it comes to earthquake prep here in the Bay. I just hope my prep is enough.
Huh...wonder if that contributed to the super high tides that have been eating parts of a seaside park in my city the last few days... --Moony
Glad they had called off the alert as quickly as they did. According to a news report I saw the "super moon" we had was responsible for a lot of high tides-- it's still closer to earth than usual... I know they mentioned the east coast, not sure, but it seems logical the west coast would have been affected as well.
I figure it was the supermoon, too, but was thinking maybe the tsunami might have also contributed. I finally saw the park during low tide a couple days ago, and man, it was even worse than it was the day before. Doesn't help we've been getting so much rain, either. Getting to the point that cyclists are endangered by the particular corner that is the remainder of an old wharf. Also picked up a dead sea sponge off the lawn and brought it home. --Moony
