Sam Smith - Hasbro ⚓️ on Instagram: "SS-99 TF7 Rise of the Beasts Battletrap “POWER IS PRIMAL” This robot design is terrifying, and we absolutely love it. Making his live action debut in ROTB is Battletrap! Based on a licensed wrecker body GMC C70, Battletrap’s vehicle mode features a blower out of the hood, and a menacing tow truck boom off the rear. When transformed into bot mode, he retains some of the awesome spiked brush guard on the chest, with an exposed engine block protruding out the center. The arms maintain portions of the wrecker crane, so that they can be utilized as melee weapons, and he features a large spiked wrecking ball that can be an extension of his arm. His head design is unlike anything that we’ve seen before in transformers, with a vented eye covering that looks a bit medical. I was lucky enough to be able to partner with Yuya Onishi on this design, and he did an amazing job of delivering on both forms. This figure is a blast to transform, and features an huge range of articulation include waist and ankle tilt. His vehicle mode even features a functioning dually wheel setup in the rear. The deco on Battletrap was a blast to put together, and delivers a color palette that is very break frame from our traditional movie villains. He gets some nice two toning on the grill, weathering on the crash bar, stripes down the side, and is complete with “Bernie’s Towing” on the door. The concept art depicted a lot of amber lighting from the cab interior for Battletrap, so we used a nice translucent orange on the windows and wrecker lights to accentuate the overall tone of the design. Overall this has to be one of the most exciting characters to come out of the trailer, and I am so excited to finally be able to share him with you! NOTE: I won’t be sharing full Screen to Toy asset breakdowns prior to the films release out of respect to our studio partnerships. What are your thoughts on ROTB Battletrap? At least he’s excited about making these figures.

 

vs. the other designers I really appreciate the production data and assets presented. Cannot stand the BTS from other designers when it offers nothing new to the convo except hot air

I freaking love that head design.

 

idk, Its a bit to super sentai-power rangers, and generally gundam-eske for me. Doesnt fit him imo. Looooooove every single other thing about him though!

LOL   considering we've only seen this guy in one small scene in the trailer, I feel like the "From Screen to Toy" bit is a little preemptive... not trying to be unappreciative, but then if they want to let us compare, then release the fully body renders/promo art please  

Ah ok... re-read his post... well, anyway, would like to see how accurate these "Studio Series" figures are, would be great to see some renders asap.

 

As a Power Rangers and Gundam fan this comment is total word salad. I don't see at all what's Sentai/Gundam about it aside form the fact that his brow is kind of like a Gundam's V-fin I guess if you squint and aren't terribly familiar with what a Gundam generally looks like.

I do wonder if the fact that this is for a character from an upcoming film means he's more limited on what he can say.

 

Not gonna lie I wasn't feeling this figure at first but stiff like this is starting to make it grow on me.

 

My my only real complaints are that he’s a little skinny and that I wish his mouth was red as well like the trailer. But looks really good.

 

He looks like jack-o-lantern here and I love it lol.

Solus Prime, help me, this guy is better and better with every frame of him that I see. I swear if the rest of the toyline its at least so good as this dude, Im gonna riot and go to bankrupt.

 

This guy's design is really cool, I'd say. Love the head. The toy also looks to be a pretty solid Voyager!
