Anyone ever find themselves missing their old CHUG collections (for any of you, including myself, who would have sold them all off in order to fund their MP collections)?

I think I enjoyed collecting more when I had to hunt store by store to get a reveal the shield Lugnut, or pick up an animated Arcee. I think it was more satisfying vs. pre-ordering MP-46 and waiting for it to ship, or worrying about which masterpiece type Hound looks best on my shelf (I still love MakeToys Gundog BTW!).

I remember how special it was to get a henkei or encore version of a fig since it had more paint, or the joints were better, lol. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic, but with the siege line and the Walmart G1 reissues, I think I'm having more fun doing that.

I've always been CHUG only but what you're saying is half the reason I enjoy it. I like collecting, not just pressing buttons online and waiting for it to come in the mail. The hunt and eventual payoff are much more satisfying than just fretting about preorders constantly.

I agree with everything you two have said.

When I started collecting in 2017, I picked up both CHUG and Masterpiece, whatever caught my eye.

Now, I only collect CHUG, because I simply find CHUG to be more fun. I like handling figures, I like playing with them with my kids, I like actually transforming them, over and over. I like fan-moding them and customing them and loading them up with ridiculous accessories. I like how sturdy they are, how they hold up, and how they wear scuffs with honor.

Don’t get me wrong: Masterpiece is great. But to me, it’s just too serious. Even the preordering business is too serious. I want to walk in to a store, see a figure, and walk out with it. I want that old childhood feeling. And I have no interest in aesthetics if the trade off is a transformation that’s a chore, or potentially damaging, or both.

I love watching reviews of MP or Fans Toys figures, for two reasons. First, I’m always impressed by the engineering that goes into those figures. And second, I'm always amazed at how incredibly un-fun those figures seem to be.

To each their own. But I’m all CHUG, all day.

I'd never give up my Generations collection for MPs. They will never make all of the MPs that I would want, and I wouldn't be able to afford them if they did.

Generations toys are also far easier to find than MPs ever were.

CHUG (I hate that acronym) for life!

I was excited about MPs... but the costs are too high for my enjoyment.
Even CHUG is getting silly. Still CHUG is my focus and the last 4 lines have been amazing!

Chug only and always. Why would I chase the new shiny scale? I get closer to completing my collection every year.

I used to like to collect both. CHUG was the primary focus but I did like to get the occasional MP when it was a character I really liked growing up (I saw my MP shelf as my personal "Hall Of Fame"). But with MPs getting more expensive, newer characters fewer and further between, and getting rehashes of other characters just for a more anime accurate look, it's just not as fun, or personally feasible, to collect MPs anymore. I never considered selling off my CHUGS but I have continued to think about selling what MPs I have and use the money and the freed up space to go toward more CHUG and the occasional G1 reissue but I think I would instantly have seller's remorse over that decision.

I think it's based on space and money..if I had more of both of those I'd probably go MP .. but I sold all the MP's I did initially get and have enjoyed CHUG. Especially post Titans Returns, all these obscure characters have been cool.

I've also found out I don't like spending over 10 minutes trying to transform a figure .. lol.

I used to collect CHUG, MP, and movie toys. Due to money and space I'm now down to just MPM and OSKO movie toys. I am tempted to get back into CHUG, though, by just collecting my favorite version of individual characters...

I just kind of buy what looks like fun at this point. I have a lot of MPs because they're fun or I love the character, and any CHUG toy that I think I would like, i get. I don't really have a "complete" set of any line, except maybe every main line release of Combiner Wars cause HOLY CRAP CW is probably my favorite. I will say that when Titans Return started I stopped really buying MP and have only got MP Primal since then. So no, I never sold any CHUG toys off to pay for MP's, it would more than likely be the other way around if anything. CHUG is my favorite line and none of them are going anywhere.

I was very tempted to get out of the chug game and just focus on mp, years ago, back when a lot of collectors were doing the same.

I'm glad that I didn't, as nowadays I'm getting more enjoyment out of chug than with mp. I've always been a collector of both chug and mp.

It was mainly the shift towards total cartoon accuracy that put me off. And to a lesser extent, the increasing cost.

I have my chug and mp all together. That's why I am excited for the earthrise seekers because they will look good with my mp36

I’ve dabbled in some Generations stuff thanks to Siege, but gone are the days where I go in all the way with non-MP lines - even if, for whatever reason, the MP line comes to an end.

I collected CHUG... but then I decided to go MP, so I started to get rid of some of my CHUGS for their MP counterparts.

    It was a mistake.

Sold off MP’s and re-collecting some of those figures. Thank you Siege.

    CHUG is where it’s at.

I've gotten more mainline releases and wanted more since Combiner Wars. I'm still more into Masterpiece, but I hope I can eventually seeing both. Finances just aren't there.

That said, that "CHUG" acronym needs to be put to rest. I'd imagine very few are collecting the lines that actually make up that acronym. "CW"; "TR"; "POTP" are all fine. "Siege" is short enough I'd hope? Gracious....

MP has never been more than a novelty for me. I'll pick up a figure of a favorite character, but CHUG has always been my focus. MP has just never had the value for the price for me.

I had a very big CHUG collection. Not perfect figures, but affordable and you could mess with them without fear.
Then MP came and i caved in, i sold all my CHUG thinking MP was the way forward. Then prices skyrocketed and i just can't justify paying so much, not even for my favorite caracter being BW megatron. I stopped buying MP when inferno came out.
I started buying CHUG again, trying to get the old gang back together. My Mp's stay for now, some of them are really great.

Also restarted with older lines like BW/BM/RID as those toys were alot more solid then what we get today. Today's CHUG look great but feel poor. It's a double loss, both MP and CHUG have gone a bad path. I hope for better times.

I love my chugs too much. Its all I wanted, g1 updated with a style, what MP's used to be. It is also way more fleshed out than TT and 3p combined.
