What an emotional issue. We begin with the police picking up Spiderman's body. They remove his mask and he is unrecognizable due to the beating. He is taken to the hospital for surgery, but the prognosis is fatal. Mary-Jane and the Avengers rush to the hospital...Morlun also goes there to finish the job. MJ finds morlun hovering above Peter and jumps him. Morlun breaks her arm. Spiderman knew this day would come...when he was at the edge of hell and he would have to sacrifice himself for MJ. At this point the inner Spider in Peter, cornered and near death, comes to life. Peter's remaining eye glows red and he lunges at Morlun. He is not Spiderman anymore...he is a spider at it's most basic and primordial. "Stinger" like claws evolve from Peter's wrists and he becomes very savage. He pierces Morlun to the ground with the claws, and the Spider feeds. Spiders when feeding always start with the head. Morlun is devoured by the Spider's power. Peter returns to human form and has his last breaths in MJ's arms. He tells her he loves her. Spiderman is dead. The Avengers arrive to take away Spiderman's body so that it cannot be autopsied and tracked to Peter's family. MJ can only cry. Captain America sheds a tear. Iron man flies into the sunset carrying the veiled life-less corpse of Spiderman. An era has ended...

Jesus Christ, Spiderman is dead? As in not returning...?

 

What if they take the Spiderman from 2099 who is with the exiles and bring him to replace him

Well the tagline for this whole series has been "Evolve or die," so I guess we'll have to wait until part 8 in Marvel Knights Spiderman #21 to see what happens next...(The cover does show a man in a coccoon...)

 

I was so surprised after reading this issue. How can he 'evolve' if he's dead? I've been skipping the Marvel Knights issues of "The Other", but I'm thinking I might have to pick up #21 to find out what happens next...

Just this whole issue was incredible. It also further re-affirms my belief that this whole thing was originally just a six issue arc written by JMS. My mouth was open wide pretty much the whole comic.

Oh, just becuase I find it funny, for those keeping track:
-After The Other, Spiderman will have a wolverine-like healing factor.
-In this issue, Spiderman's "spider" side took over and he pretty much became a wild animal.
-Spiderman had blades that popped out from his wrists.

 

Spiderman 2099 joins in the next arc starting either next month or the end of this one when they visit the 2099 universe.

 

oohh, I'll keep my eyes open then. I buy anything 2099 Spiderman related

 

I don't know if you already read Exiles, but you might want to go back a little if you plan on picking it up so you know what's up. They're currently wrapped up in a "World Tour" story arc, which has them hopping all over well known/established Marvel realities chasing this bad guy. They started off in House of M, and are currently in New Universe. After that they're going to 2099, where spiderman joins them, and then onto Squadron Supremeverse. I forget if that was all of them, but the story arc will end up in Heroes Reborn for it's finale.

 

Considering the references to a spider "feeding", I really doubt Peter's dead. It's more likely he absorbed Morlun's power (much like Morlun had intended with Peter) and his body has gone into a deep hibernation in order to process the power.

And Peter has always had something of a "healing factor" due to the advanced rate his metabolism works at.

 

Man what a mess spiderman is now, please just bring back ben and let peter go off as a bad wolverin copy now.

 

So they turned Spider-Man into Wolverine to defeat Mourlan, then they ripped off the death of Superman when he died? He'll be back in.......4 issues. Thats my guess.

 

Well, we know for a fact that he's not really dead, and he's going to be back in far less than 4 issues. That's why they didn't play up his death like it was some huge event. And just for the record, the correct term is "copied the idea from Death of Superman, but putting a spin on it by making it coherent and well-written".

 

Its an okay arc. Not what I expected. Not what I had *hoped*.

Those stabby things were hardened webbing... probably.
