I remember reading a few years back how when the French dub of transformers the movie was being done, the high voices of starscream and shrapnel resulted in them being thought to be female, and were cast as such for the dub. I found this so damn hilarious and wanted so bad to see it. I imagine others may find this just as amusing. I just came across a video, which is linked below, which compiles all the scenes for these two from that dub. It is pretty cool and I figured others would enjoy seeing what a female starscream would be like on screen. Enjoy :)

I guess Slipstream existed before Animated, huh?

Young man, I take offense in such statements!

    YouTube (Legacy):
Shrapnel was also sometimes female in the Russian dub of the series. The voice was clearly female, but the Insecticon was addressed with both "he" and "she" even within the same episode. On the other hand, Pathfinder from "Challenge of the Gobots" was male in the dub.

The French version from Quebec, Canada, is much better!

    Sorry...no offence intended!
I was trying to be as objective as possible with that statement. Spain doesn't precisely shine with translations...In other Scifi series I have watched, sometimes the translators couldn't understand the English, and if the character was an alien they simply assumed those sentences were alien language from Planet X...(and left it as alien language! i.e., poorly pronounced English...) I mean...really...seriously? Living in Spain, that's why I order DVDs from the UK...to make sure I have an English version!

    PS. Young 'woman'...

Sorry lady, but saying young man is much funnier. :p

I can see why you'd think that though, we've certainly had shitty dubs and translations, though those are clearly the minority if you stay long enough around here. You get the worse and more badly translated and dubbed stuff in the southern parts of this somewhat fine country. Go anywhere in Catalonia and you'll eventually hear awesome voices anywhere.

*please keep on TF topic-vid removed

correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they also make Arcee a male in the same dub?

Given Arcee's line in the clip is a female (and perhaps the same actress as Shrapnel), I'd be inclined to say no.

A french accented female Starscream would be so much fun in some future TF series. Though decades of Monty Python would make it hard to watch anything she'd do or say without thinking of some ridiculous riff.
