They are planning several Marvel Live action series. The Hulk Cloak and Dagger AKA Jessica Jones Mockingbird. The Punisher is just the latest. Expect DC to follow suit with new shows soon. There have been some rumors of a Batman Tv show aft DK Rises. The Spectre is getting a Pilot. Time will tell if it get picked up. Not to mention Locke and Key(Mtv may be interested) Fables and Powers
Unless it's garbage, in which case they'll renew it for 8 seasons straight. Actually, i'm kind of surprised the thing hasn't been linked to Seth McFarlane yet.

They better hire Thomas Jane for the role. The Punisher (2004) - You shouldn't play with knives - YouTube EPICNESS. I'm probably the only comic book fan who freaking loves that movie, I say go for good an ol' Tom [specially since he's "cheap"]. Hell, even if you don't like the movie, you gotta admit the dude gave his best to the role [fun facts: He didn't use stuntmen, almost broke his neck trying to do a stunt himself, TRAINED WITH THE FREAKING SEALS for the role, "add-libbed" that knife trick on the "you shouldn't play with knives" scene all by himself, became ridicuously strong for the role, is an specialist on firearms].
No powers so not a lot of SFX needed. I can see it with him sort of an underground merc taking on jobs each week while trying to find the person who put the hit on his family. A combo of Human Target/24.
