I found scorn in an alpha trion box. The box is taped so I don't know if it came like this or if employees taped it up.
Hard to say without the pic, but it definitely sounds like someone pulled a switch and returned it to Walmart. Might have been either an employee taping it up to put back on the shelf or the person returning it tried to make it look factory authentic as possible taping it back up. Happens quite a bit sadly.
Someone bought Trion, shoved an old Scorn in the box, and returned it. Depending on how much/little the employees pay attention they often get away with it. We've had someone in the TC metro area in Minnesota doing this crap for a few years now at Target and Walmart.
people do that A LOT more with GI Joes, especially army builder 2 packs where one figure isn't an army builder
That's exactly what I was thinking. Buy it, sell the Scorn, use the extra profit to buy a real Alpha Trion at Target.
Yeah, red AOE Hasbro scorn (not the takara tomy release) is rare and desirable because (if I'm remembering correctly) I don't think he was put in any refresher cases. So he's only in his assortment case. He's also a FANTASTIC figure and probably one of the best, if not, the best figure in the AOE toyline. People also like him because he's basically a Beast Wars Megatron in Spinosaurus clothing.
