10/28 - updated again, latest pics in last post Created some transforming covers for the Ark that tightly plug into the existing fairings - folds up tight, sturdy as hell, no partforming. They neatly fold out of the way for robot mode. Also included a tower filler. This newest version covers the front gaps as well, and helps hold the ship together if you have a stinker that pops apart all the time like mine. They look nice and the details look good. but correct me if I’m wrong: I thought you were planning on making panels to replace the stock pop-on panels. Did you change your mind or was this just another alternative and you may still make the replacements?
No, I definitely wanted to avoid replacing the pop on panels - they are relatively huge and would take hours upon hours to print just one. And then I would have to tweak it, and print another, and another until I got it just right. So much filament and days wasted. A set of these takes a 2 hours to print and doesn't use a lot of material. Things that take days to print are no fun. I'm impatient.
I'm considering adding a joint and extending the existing joint in the small front panel so it can line up with the contour of the ship, rather than just cut it at a diagonal. Maybe just extend the existing joint so it matches the top of the ship since the bottom and top don't have the same lines. Not sure if it's worth the effort.
OK, a little redesign all around. Much happier with it now. Matches the contour of the ship better, just need to tweak the front angles a bit more. Of course my color filament didn't show up yet. Once it's the right color it should just look like a natural part of the ship.
So...I though I was done with this. I guess not. Those smaller openings further up the ship didn't really bug me - until they did. I realized I could just add on to what I already made with very little change to robot mode. They still fold up into nice little bundles for robot mode, and they have the added benefit of helping to lock the front and back of the ark together (if you have one of those that pops open constantly like mine does). V2 has been added to the cults link. I'll leave the old version up as well if anyone prefers that over this.
I'm still holding out for a DNA Add-on kit. However, yours is looking really nice MMM. Very creative alternative. If only I had the capacity to actually print stuff.
I wanted to do something about the reverse side of the panels in robot mode as they were flat and boring, then I realized the smaller panels could be folded out for some visual flair and cover the flat boring parts.
I wasn't happy with the panel texture I did originally, I redesigned it to look more like the rest of the ship, more subtle. Both versions available for download, parts can be mixed and matched to personal preference.

Can you make plugs that go into the 4 holes on the top of the Ark. It is something that I don't understand about the original design and it seems like it should be fixed. Also someone floated the idea of having a piece that goes on top of the gray center top portion of the ship and I think I would agree if it slops downward to where the surface of the ship where the gray part ends and before the rear tower. Also I heard someone float the idea once of using something to eliminate the space sludge from the Ark. Do you know if this is possible, what to use to do it, and if there are any photos of anyone who has done it already?
Other than the four holes on top (I think), I have no idea what you are talking about. I'm not planning to make anything else for this guy. WTF is "space sludge"?
The 4 pegs thing is an obvious issue some have added gun turrnets strip in that spot. I just want plugs for it. Space sludge was seen on the Siege Tetra Jets as everyone knows since it look really bad. (that's not battle damage) Look at how bad it is around the front rim of the ship like I know they want to make it seem like its damage from re-entry but that's not what it looks like to me. To me I'm thinking like what happen did it slam into the same horse manure as Biff in back to the future? It looks awful and I was thinking maybe rubbing alcohol can help remove it but not sure if that's the right thing to use or if there is something better. Also has anyone removed that space sludge yet and if so is there a picture since I want to see how it turns out before going through the effort of the project to make sure the results will be better. Then there is spot where the big ugly gray spot on the top in the center before the tower in the rear. Like what the heck everything else is yellow but not this and it stands out and looks ugly. I would like to cover it up but not just with another brick on top but a brick that is slopped downwards towards the rear so it is more aerial dynamic.
