Here's something I finished not too long ago... The body, obviously, is from FOC OP, and the head was from the wonderful casting genius Hondasaint (thanks again, my friend; you're work is fantastic!). Cleaned, sanded, primed and painted, with multiple washes to get that nice metallic look. And clear coated as well, of course. The real pain with this one was digging out the window sections in order to put in the blue chest/cab lighting. Given the thickness of the plastic and the angles involved, it took forever to do. I think it was worth the effort though! I'm toying with putting a few of my pieces on ebay, and this is one of them. But I"m a bit nervous about it because I don't really know how much one can expect with auctions for custom TFs. Anyone have any pointers, suggestions, instructions etc. on the subject?
Looks really nice & clean. I had a teacher once who helped me estimate pricing my artwork this way... -estimate hours spent on work & multiply by at least minimum wage -find price of paint & estimate percentage used in piece -add cost of all materials used This could be your starting bid or your reserve, but at least then you won't lose money.
That's really cool! Only wish there were a way to add some wings to his back in bot mode (not that, that would make sense for this mode though). Great work man!
that's cool as hell bro, I am slowly collecting G1...but that one looks hella cool. Just put em on Ebay. There are collectors of all types and a mod this good will sell.
If done right, the wings could rotate back and fill in the back of the alt mode. And nice work! Love the windshield.
Dude, excellent job with the windows. It actually looks like the light is coming from within.. and in all angles!
Looks really cool and like a pre dino-mode Grimlock its amazing how many remoldes the Prime FOC mold has
Thanks for all the kind words guys! I'm glad people liked this custom; it took forever to do... in part because there actually IS an LED in there! The switch is really tiny and sits just under Grimlock's left arm.
Looks awesome! Good luck with the ebay auctions. You can make a little ad that you can place in your signature that lets people know about your auction. That way, the more you post, the more people here will see it. Post your works in other places too. As for actually selling, one time I had only one person bid on my custom TFTM LEADER Megatron AND Voyager Optimus Prime. Both figures in one auction. It sold for a dollar. Luckily, it was a fellow customizer that won it and let me keep it. Since then, I start my auctions at a price I am comfortable with. That way, if there is only one bidder, I at least make a little profit. Ex. I buy a $15 deluxe figure but put a starting price at $20. That's just me though.
Yeah, I think the cost of the base figure with a repaint like this should be the bare minimum starting price.
Thanks for the praise, and the advice guys! I'm always amazed by the people who actually seem to make a living (albeit I would guess not a great one!) off customizing! As an artist and educator, I know I"d never be able to live off my work!
