So I got the recent FOC Ultra Magnus and found that it makes a pretty good upgrade kit for the Botcon 2012 SG Ultra Magnus (at least until Maketoy's tanker set is released next year). Just painted the helmet red and used a bit of electrical tape to make the balljoint tighter without having to radically alter the figure. Head fits great and can transform well. The red eyes, white face and pointy chin on the original head makes him look pretty evil (kinda looks like a vampire to me) and not very heroic at all, I wonder why Hasbro didn't give him blue eyes and a silver face/antennas?

The gun and sword fits but a word of warning - there's a slight stress mark on the fists after using the sword, don't do it if you don't want to damage your figure!

If the Gun/Sword are stressing the figure's hands... it'd be ideal to sand down the weapons then, to further prevent any more stress for handling the weapons.

But yea... cool.  

Oh, one fun thing you can do with SG Magnus' former head... get a ball joint that fits it, attach said ball joint to a chain of sorts... have it worn around SG Optimus Prime's neck as some sort of deranged trophy.

Wow that looks cool, like it was meant to be. I don't have that figure, but I may pick up an extra gift set for the similar Optimus.

I really think the Botcon head looked cool, but this idea works really well for the character.

I'd love to know what that skull faced sculpt was originally meant to be when Hasbro/Tak aradesigned it since they must have had some character in mind other than Magnus. This custom looks exactly how I'd imagine the official take would be.

 

IIRC, the skull-face was meant for an eventual Nemesis Prime version.

Thanks for the comments guys, I didn't really hate the crystal skullhead but with the new head he can go into the Diaclone collection (don't have many SG figures). If there's ever a clear version of the G2 Prime, I'll reuse the Botcon head there!
