Hi all, I had a look elsewhere but couldn't find an answer, so apologies if this has been been posted before. I got my FOC Soundwave through delivered to my desk at work today and had a quick play with him in my car at lunch. As a figure, I'm pretty impressed, he'll look good on my classics shelf but…. I transformed Laserbeak, popped him into Soundwave's chest and he got stuck. Really, really stuck. The only way to get him out was with my car keys. It took a lot of effort to get him in there in the first place - there was barely any clearance either side and I was a bit worried he wouldn't make it back out again without a fight. Turns out I was right. Is it just mine or have other people had this problem? I don't want to risk loading him in again just incase he gets stuck there forever...
Do the instructions say that Laserbeak has to be inserted with a specific side facing up or anything like that, and are you certain it was transformed correctly? Obvious things to ask, I know, but you never know if you've accidentally missed something.
Push the lever on the back to eject the disc? There's no way something can stay stuck in there... There's no clearance because there's no need to.
I'm thinking maybe the Laserbeak isn't fully in disc-form, and trying to expand. Oooooooooof course I don't have either mold yet so I am speaking mostly out of my ass, but just throwing it out there as a possibility. It's out in Australia.
I got him on ebay for a really good price - who knows if he'll ever turn up on shelves in the UK. It was the Australian packaging. I don't really want to put him back in again just to take a photo, in case he doesn't make it out again! I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem with him or if mine is a one off. I was thinking maybe i could sand the edges of his chest compartment a bit, but seems a bit extreme.
If you watch any of the video reviews of Soundwave or Soundblaster, they both have this problem. It is common. The instructions also say to position the data disc with the button facing out of SW/SB's chest, but from what I've seen in the video reviews, putting him in the opposite way, with the detailing on top of the disc outwards to launch it out, but they do get stuck quite often. Kinda sucks to know that this gimmick isn't as nice as Has/Tak planned it to be.
Ah sorry, missed your query. All the eject botton does is flip the door open. To launch a disc, you have to push a punger mechanism in from Sounwave's back. I can push this nearly all the way in, but it sticks as Laserbeak lodges in the opening of his chest.
Thanks, I scoured around a bit and found a review that seems to back this up. I tried again wih the disc the opposite way and it still got stuck, so I think I'll leave it. Good to know it isn't just mine though. I'm 33, so my need to launch plastic robots across the lounge has diminished since the 80s, but still a bummer for all the under 12s out there.
Is there enough clearance to put a clear rubber band around Laserbeak if the bird is partially opening and getting stuck or is the problem with Soundwave and so would effect all disks ?
No, I wondered if this was the problem but when I finally prised it out with my car keys, he was still in disc mode, nothing had tried to transform. There would barely be room for a hair around the disc, let alone a rubber-band - I really had to force him into the compartment. I'll get a picture up tonight just to show everyone the problem - I think I've resigned myself to the fact it can't be fixed though!
Just to follow up on this, my FoC Soundwave is really bad, too. If I'm lucky, I can get Laserbeak pushed to the very front, but he still gets locked up. And now one of LB's wings broke off when my kid was playing with him. I suspect it's because of the pressure we'd put on the toy trying to get the disc to push through. Wondering if I can even return it and whether I even should.
I think you may have had to disc in upside down or not transformed properly. From what I remember in seeing reviews of the figure, FOC Blaster included, the decepticon logo has to be upside down otherwise it won't run along the tracks properly. But who knows...
