A thread for this who disagree on DLC. I know a good portion of you despise it. So i decided to make thread for all who won't be getting it. That way we won't have multiple people arguing consistently. Enjoy!
The only piece of DLC I wanted was the G1 Optimus Prime Skin, and now if I want that, I have to buy it with all this other stuff I don't want that comes with it.
I sort of wish we had a separate acronym to differentiate disk-locked and downloadable content. I want it to be crystal clear to everyone that this game uses disk-locked content. I bet HM and/or Activision is pretty happy that the acronyms happen to be the same so they can continue to throw around "DLC" in advertisements when they really mean disk-locked.
Repeat cycle? I'm all for DLC, meaning downloadable content. I'd like to think the game studios have faith in and developed a good game that they can continue to sustain through the creation of brand new content, that all players would be happy to purchase the right to play. As many will say though, if you don't like it, then don't pay for it. Of course I'd say go a step further, and fire off an email to the game companies behind the games guilty and tell them why you're not buying their game or paying for the DLC. A single letter/email may not mean much, but a few hundred disgruntled potential customers is another, especially when the game has a small market. Until then, either ignore the DLC, pay for it, or wait for a sale.
Whilst on-disc DLC does feel a little weird, I really don't see how HMS could do multiplayer character skin DLC without it being like that, since otherwise how will my system display someone using DLC characters I don't own? The only way to do it would be to segregate players based on which DLC they own, which would be ridiculous considering people could have any combination of the three packs, plus G1 Prime and Swoop on their own from pre-order bonuses too.
There have been some solutions used in the past, such as forced updates, optional compatibility packs, and I'm pretty sure I remember Quake 2 used a system where there was a generic, default character model used when you didn't have the model the opponent was using.
Every DLC pack is 800 points, which is rather pricey, but meh. Frankly, I think on-disk in general is pretty annoying, but it's not annoying enough for me to not buy it, if that makes any sense.
