The last major Transformers-related item uncovered from the storage of former Sunbow producer Flint Dille back in 2020 is now available online. Flint's character binder, which received its last update on December 3rd, 1986. Nearly all of the 1987 toy lineup is represented within its 333 pages, as well a copy of Bob Budiansky's treatment for the Marvel Comics' Headmasters miniseries.

Due to its size at 333 pages, the binder has been split up into three galleries, which can be viewed at the Sunbow Marvel Archive: The Sunbow Marvel Archive: Briefing/Reference Binder galleries

Abominus was originally called Horriblus and the Terrorcons were originally called Monstructs..

Rippersnapper was originally Fleshraker! Sinnertwin was Two-Bad! Cutthroat was Slish Slash! Blot was Slimebucket (I think we knew that one before, maybe).

Overkill and Slugfest were Cruncher and Bruiser.

Pointblank is actually called Targetmaster Leader (I’ve known that since I was a kid but can’t remember where it was said)

We knew Firebolt was called Sparks because of the Marvel Comics.

Scourge’s function is Targetmaster Leader?? That’s new. His rank is 8 while Cyclonus is 6. Is that how their tech specs were? And Fracas was originally Sizzler.

Predaking was originally called Anicon. Or just the team name?

Six Gun was originally called Stalker.

GALAN WAS IN THE ORIGINAL BIO, NOT SPIKE! And he was ORIGNALLY called Rand before Galan.

Scorponok was called Imperious!!?

The Autobots minds were merged into the Nebulons brains?? I mean, that’s sorta what happened but… hmm

The Targetmaster weapons were ROBOTS originally, with the minds of Nebulons! They weren’t dudes in armor like the Headmasters!

 

This is also the first time we've seen the Terrorcon's extended bios, though the abilities and weaknesess are missing.

Horriblus, Fleshraker, Two-Bad and Slish Slash... Bob was having an odd weekend when he was coming up with Terrorcon names, it's like he watched a horror movie and followed it up with some Go-Bots cartoons.

 

I'm interested to read about the monster bots and such other guys who didn't get a chance to appear in the show. Another found media W.

 

IIRC that was kinda implied however it could've been animation errors, where there were shots of robots sitting beside the organic Nebulons and there were robots slipping into the Targetmaster

 

Still wondering where Outback, and Tailgate are.

 

They're 86, not 87, so wouldn't be involved in this batch of characters
