I'm not a huge expert on the topic, but how much do factory defects on the inside of the package hurt the value of new/sealed Transformers in the long run?

I'm trying to decide between two MP10 Primes (the Toys R Us ones).

On the first one, the bottom part of the axe (the spiked ball part) came off and is rattling around inside the box-- you can shake it to move it back to it's own section... but it's still clearly and visibly detached, of course.

In the second one, Prime isn't properly positioned into his section. He's sort of leaning forward and part of his opened chest made contact with the window before the paint dried so, there's a spot of paint on the window itself and there's a spot of discolor/missing paint on his chest.

Which one of these would be better to keep around? I already have the old Masterpiece Prime (from 2005 or 06, I think?) on display, so I want to keep one of these new/MISB. I'm returning the other.

Keep the one with the missing paint.

the paint is a chemical fix (return this)

the spike ball is a physical fix (easily done)

Keep the one with the loose energy axe piece. At least you know the figure isnt defected in any way.

The axe does that anyways. It's not broken at all.

I don't think he wants to know if the axe is broken, but just which one would look better for a MISB display. I would still go with the one with the detached axe, as he is a cool toy and it will benefit you if you decide to open/sell it later on.

If the axe is really broken... then neither, just wait for another to show.

You make a good point... the axe, even when detached, doesn't look that bad when I tried to display it (if I get it back in it's spot, even if it's completely off). If I open it, it won't matter. The botched paint version looks bad either way.

I think I'll keep the detached axe one.

I'm not 100% sure but these seem to be sold out everywhere near me. I already called the few other Toys R Us stores within 1-2 hour drive, and none of them have them in stock. I must have been super lucky to find two in one store. The axe isn't broken, the bottom part just detached.

We only had a few show up here so far, like one or two cases per store at max. I'm just waiting, they will be around, there is no way Hasbro just gonna produce 1 or 2 major shipments and be done with it. They will show up soon. The first shipment was just to judge how many more they should aim for, before switching the production line to the next toy.

But if it's just detached, then that's the one I would get.

Not that I think it will be the case here but people were expecting more FE Primes last year too.

Only reason why I don't think MP OP will go the way of FE Prime is because FE Prime wasn't an MP.

MY MP10 wasn't that great either. The front windows were crooked and I had to try bending the right window upward. That caused the tab to hit the bottom of Prime's chrome grill and made a big scratch on something not too durable to begin with.

The axe one is better. That part is supposed to detach. It's not broken, just mispackaged.

I think you are right. It's available on the website right now... I wonder if I should order one and hope to get a better unit.

Either way, thanks for the responses guys.

I'd keep the one with the detached axe, it's not a real defect, while bad paint apps is.

    I wouldn't worry about a toy's "value."
