As someone who enjoys IDW’s designs for Transformers in general . I was highly anticipating this kit since preordering him from Ohmyprimus when I saw it came up on their listing . So here’s a review on the kit . Part 2 . It was getting a little cluttered to arrange the pics.
Leg articulation , here’s where it gets interesting. Both legs are connected to the hips via individually articulated rockers which allows an incredible range of movements if you use it. 4B95B05A-3215-489F-AA91-D9B94F830C32.jpeg 84C3CA47-EE5B-4AF5-8CDF-401119D7A79D.jpeg 335B08D8-C4D7-4F0B-9E66-570B8F18BBA5.jpeg C1E45D04-D65A-44B7-99ED-5ED525E73ADA.jpeg D99B809D-414F-4E50-BCCD-0CD757B1AB02.jpeg EFBFDD17-09E5-414F-B15E-D66E2E35361F.jpeg EBC0F8BD-AEC3-41B8-8FF5-6305D86B0749.jpeg And also collapsible upper calves that allows an incredible knee bend 238A221B-D428-4761-9340-A47E277859F5.jpeg 986229AC-3771-436E-8774-1DF591EA4B7D.jpeg however the ankles which are on a ball joints have very limited articulations due to the design 2C3E8BA4-DFCC-4EA7-9E78-BFC6117C5937.jpeg A28BF302-ACB3-49E9-9CCB-99B12275DDAF.jpeg AE1EC26D-67DE-45E8-8EEB-53F0A6DC95DA.jpeg
Now for the arms , connected to the shoulder piece on a swivel , with great elbow bend with it being double hinged 6FD41CC1-DC7A-4FD3-AF82-05DAF81EE3B1.jpeg 6133AC50-9357-4A6D-B3F3-945F41A11214.jpeg hands are on a pin to plug into the polycap connecting into the base of the forearms . Forearms on this kit is on 2 separated pieces connected with a ball to polycap joint . Some thoughts on it after building.
I believe I can say it has slightly thicker plastic compared to bandai’s offerings . Feels a tad more durable and adequate for the higher price point compared to other kits in the size range.

The kit is overall very easy to assemble and the plastic doesn’t seem to mark easily at all and nub mark removals was an easy task. There’s some very smart choices for the kit , one being the individual hip rockers which you usually see in some modern mastergrade gunplas and the collapsible upper calves that allows for a deeper knee bend .

The general hand feel of the kit is more similar to an action figure than a model kit . Feels very durable , nothing really falls apart when handling the assembled kit.

The only real negatives are the stickers for the arms , it’s iconic to this interpretation of optimus . However it’s two big pieces of stickers with no area allowed for mistakes when putting it on. And due to it being from a foil sheet , it wrinkles easy. The ankles were a tad disappointing as well , as despite being on a ball joint is also quite limited in range mostly due to shin design . I’ve also noticed some misalignment in the panel lines for the neck piece .

Overall I genuinely enjoy building it and was quite surprised by just the general quality, and engineering implemented since this is just their 3rd model kit ? This feels like building a action figure in the form of a model kit . I look forward to their future kits , and would recommend getting their kits , if you enjoy building model kits to mess around with . I do hope they venture into more parts separation in the future and reduce the stickers needed , or switch to decals .

It took about a day because of paint and nub removals , but shouldn’t take more than 4-5 hours if you’re doing a snapbuild

Excellent review, and the kit looks fantastic. Your painted details look great as well, especially the face. The detail is crisp there and I had no idea just looking at the bare plastic.

Really hope I can find this for a decent price one day. Much more to my liking than the first OP.

I took their promotional images as a guide . So it was easy to plan it out before assembling. Also helped I had gcreations and the comic images up.

As for decent price , usagundamstore has it at $32.99, and you can use zakuaurelius promo code for it .

Looks fantastic. Can't wait for their MTMTE Megatron. One of these days I really need to get around to building their first version of Optimus Prime that I bought a few months ago

Yeah , waiting for megs to get on the preorder listing and maybe also bee .
I forgot to list this up , but here’s a very violent shake test incase anyone is wondering what I meant by it feeling very durable . You can’t do that to a gunpla kit

I bought this guy because Flame Toys have completely won me over and recently got him. I've never done a model kit before but as said, this guy was definitely easy for beginners.

With the exception of a few niggles, he's pretty amazing and was a lot of fun to build. Definitely has a lot of personality and I love how poseable he is. I was planning on only getting Autobot Megs as well but now I'm tempted to get Bee and Nemesis Prime as well.

Great review @Jhund looks like a fun build and I'm glad to hear it's fairly sturdy once completed.

can’t say I blame you for that , I’m also in on bee , but half and half on megs now . The recent showcase does indicate it needs a lot more paint due to lack of parts separation. Might need to hit the hobby shop again to plan for it .

yeah it’s pretty damn sturdy compared to other types of model kits on the market . I posted this on my ig and some transformers fan page on fb Jhund The Jester on Instagram: “How solid is #flametoys #idw #optimusprime kit ? . . . . #autobots #transformers”
