Man I've always had a softspot for the yuusha granddaddy. Not the biggest fan of this iteration of him but the design looks stunning.
what is up with people creeped out by the design esthetic? calling it 'Gundam-esq'? i swear they will be horrified if they saw several of the mechs used by the original characters made for the Super Robot Wars games, which are also a spoof on the Gundam designs, well due to being designed by the Gundam mechanical designers themselves, & also bordering on copyright violation (see the Huckebein design issue).
I always dig how Okawara contributed to Star Saber's design sprinkling him with elements reminiscent of rx-78-2 and ideon making him a distinctly Japanese TF. And that SS and TF Victory's legacy would end up being the prototype for the Brave series.
Beautiful. If I had a quid for every time someone mentions Gundam in one of these threads, I’d actually be able to afford this line. They have Japanese super-robot influenced designs, we get it.
I don't need to look at the thread to tell you it's mostly people saying "Transformers that dont transform are stupid" and "why does he look like a gundam" It's like most TF fans have absolutely no idea what alot of mecha series outside of TF are like. Not to burst your bubble guys, but Star Saber was literally originally designed by the first Gundam designer (Kunio Okawara), this version is just keeping in line with that.
It's a damn gorgeous pointless figure if that's the case. Non transforming figures have been a staple of the franchise since G1. I don't think anything's gonna change that.
It's only a five page thread. If you cut out the people who've said "it gundom" before and just repeat it every time this fig makes the front page, you'll probably only get, like, eleven quid.
