That is a nice looking Gundam!
Looks like a Gundam.
I actually struggle to think of any Gundam that has that much shit sticking off of it.
Like maybe the Strike Freedom, or Unicorn Perfectibility. It definitely has the "jumbled assault of jagged angles" of the latter. The lion chest is straight out of Brave, looking a lot like Ganesic GaoGaiGar only more extreme.
I would say that, but the the platform shoes give me a Great Da-Garn GX feel.
If it makes it any better, his full name is Victory Leo. So, yeah.
Gaogaigar called and wants his identity back...
Just waiting for the GaoGaiGar vs Betterman anime to happen.
I kinda think the designer of this Flame Toys Victory Leo is a big GGG fan. I mean, it looks as if he directly was inspired by the lion head design straight out of the show.
Gundam 0079, Gaogaigar and Starsaber all have one designer Kuni Okawara (he also designed the original Scorponok, Hardhead and I have a stinking suspicion, Starship Maximus' battleship mode).
Just way too busy for me.
Still not sure about this Victory Leo...on one hand, having Star Saber makes me feel compelled to also have the Victory Saber combination, on the other hand I'm worried to stress his joints. A second copy would solve the problem but the Kuro Kara Kuri pricing isn't friendly enough to buy multiples.
I undoubtedly admire the craftsmanship, but the design is a little too busy for me in terms of poseability. Although maybe I’m wrong and it’ll pose just fine
Doesn't look very posable.
It looks like a Brave robot through the lens of Hajime Katoki. Which is exactly my shit. If I had infinite money I'd break my "no nontransforming figures that aren't Action Master references" rule for both of these.
It's gonna be kinda depressing whenever we do get a Generations Victory Saber that it will likely take no inspiration from this.
Honestly the clear GGG influence makes it amazing. I've already got the SoC GGG toy but if a 3RD party is watching if they made a transformable version I'd totally buy it too.
Not saying it doesn't look cool, but I'm not sure combining into a form with a lion head chest, two shoulder cannons, big feet, and big wings was exactly an original idea. Best to leave that lion head off the chest for obvious reasons, but new designers always "know" better.
This looks amazing. It successfully updates one of my favorite Brave-esque Transformers designs and fixes the most glaring flaw of the G1 design. Any fan of giant robots from the 1970s, 80s or 90s knows: the lions head always goes on the chest. (Anime normies all think GGG invented that brilliant cliche.)
The only problems:
1) Even if I had the the extra mortgage payment to spend on toys, I wouldn't spend it on a toy that I'd be afraid to ever touch. If I break my limited edition toy (be it by my own clumsiness or even by breathing on it wrong) I'm SOL forever.
1a) Side note, if I don't put this is an expensive and utterly sealed display case, my wife's cats are all evil enough to knock this on the floor or chew any pointy bits they find tasty that night. (See: every book, chair, desk and electric cord in my house within their reach.) The dog would at least only destroy it thru sheer clumsiness by tail whipping the shelf to bits.
2) These are all based on children's toys and this design deserves to actually BE A TOY that kids can play with, not just a rich fan's status symbol.
3) Hasbro is too interested in remaking every frame variation of 1984 Optimus Prime to give a rat's trap about making this themselves.
4) TT makes more money on bullet trains than they make on selling Transformers, so they don't care anymore either.
5) The closest 3P version we seem to be ever be getting of this Star Saber design, has a face that looks to have been inspired by a tribal mask seen in a 1930s jungle serial or a Bugs Bunny cartoon.
So I shall resign myself to a nice 4k desktop wallpaper when it's finally released while I play with my annual Optimus Prime updates, now with that little yellow triangle on his arms, but the blue eyes aren't quite yellow enough.
I can only offer a silent prayer to the future homes of this extravagance, that these toys find good homes without the potential terror of late mortgage payments or spouses with too many cats or happy dogs with the tail wagging destructive power on par with a small explosive device. Though why anyone would want such a barren life for sake of a toy eludes me. Cheers.
Names reserves for artists and turtles apparently.
Looks like an overpriced, knockoff "GaoGaiGar". Why bother with this, when you can get a fully transforming, or non-transforming GaoGaiGar cheaper?
It's also looks nothing like Victory Leo.
Easy, easy pass.
Does Optimus have whiskers?
Separate names with a comma.
