After being awakened to the world of correct acrylic paint, I've been busy. I thought I'd give Vector Prime the treatment. Then, I went after Optimus. Both feature extensive washes, with Optimus also getting a dark red wash to bring out some details. Vector found his missing gold plating as well. My picture taking skills are still lacking, however. Pics are clickable. As you can (kind of) see from these, they had alot of detail brough out, and I killed the yellow on Prime.
and what, pray tell, is CORRECT acrylic paint, and where did you find it? I've got good touch up skills, but can't for the life of me find decent paint.
Oh yeah, same here. Every paint app I ever put on amything rubs off in a week, whereas the original paint apps stay on for years.
Those both look excellent. I have to ask though - do you have access to a better camera anywhere? I'd really like to be able to see these in a higher resolution. -Mike
The paint is Testor's Model Master Acryl. Of course, it always makes a difference depending on the type of plastic, but for touch ups and Joes/SW, it can't be beat. I can't scratch it off some figures, and I've tried. And I'm working on better pics, probably have some up tomorrow.
Those look fantastic. Man, Prime looks even better with the yellow parts of his head painted over. If there's one thing I don't like on Prime it's the yellow bits on his head/face, including his eyes. I only like Prime's eyes blue.
I love the Model Master acrylics. The regular Testors acrylic paint you can get at wal-mart is good, too. Whenever you go looking for acrylic paints, make sure you get acrylic enamels. Non enamel acrylics won't bond with plastic. One nice thing about acrylics, is that you can mix in a few drops of Future floor polish (which is a rock hard acrylic clear coat) and it will make the paint dry harder. Don't put in too much, or you'll end up with transpearent paint. Those both look good. Can't decide if I want to do something like that with my Op, or not. I want to pick up the Strascream/Vector Prime 2 pack, when it comes out. I intend to give Vector Prime a black oil wash. With luck, the oil paint will darken up VP's plastic, a bit.
Can you guys give some tips for making a wash and a good way to apply it? I've been thinking of it for VP for awhile now.
Hmm, makes me wanna buy a Cybertron VP for kitbashing purposes... the wash really brings out the gear detailing on him, not quite as visable as in the show, but still improves it a lot. If successful I'd probably try it on my GF VP too...
