I'm beginning to think the same thing. I mean Cheetor's deluxe mainline toy's robot mode is VERY different from his actual robot mode in the movie so that theory isn't likely far off. Come to think of it I wonder if the reasons for the delay and reshoots also had a part to play in having the final designs be different from their concept/planned designs?

 

Pfft, doing a campaign at a zoo is pretty genius.  

But instead of making them better (like with Sonic) they seemingly made them worse.

So that's cool.

 

Lol wtf, is that our actual first front look of Airazor airazor? Tho pretty sure it's gonna be different in the movie. And yep she looks really similar to the mainline toy. Look at her wings.

That's actually both a cute and pretty fitting marketing idea to promote ROTB by having this be in Zoos.

 

That looks more like SS version with green paint apps

 

It is, very clever and fitting to help promote the film. I would assume other Zoo’s will get this beside the one in Australia.

Which begs the question, if the mainline Cheetor is based on early concept art, why's SS airazor, which is supposedly more accurate to the movie, looks very similar to this? Maybe not everything was redesigned?

 

Cheetor looks more or less the same as in early cgi render, Airazor is totally different bot. Primal seems without changes.

It is really interesting and a bit hilarious how the promotional material 3D models look completely different than what we have gotten so far.
If it is true that the Trailer we got is one year old actually, it means that in the time they delayed the movie they got the chance to properly remake the 3D models which hopefully we are going to see in the Superbowl spot or in a future Second Trailer.
Well, Bumblebee looks to be the only one who looks somewhat the same.

 

Which is interesting cause from what we have seen overall the mainline is more accurate. Which is odd.

 

Nah he'll probably be more vibrant than the others judging by the trailer.

 

Vibrant red and blue Optimus that is visually recognizable to me instead of a mishmash of exploding moving triangles in various muted hues? Yes, please.

 

I think this is the first time I’ve seen toy/promotional art models look better than the designs in the actual movie. Such a bizarre situation.

Along with that, we have a studio series figure using concept art and a mainline figure being more accurate (from what we’ve seen).

 

Which will probably look better as a toy than in the actual movie.

 

The best way I can describe Optimus Prime's design in ROTB is how much it looks like it was made by toyworld. How their designs look like they were made from one dimension and the depth was inferred from there.
