Not only do we not tolerate the flaming for others for their opinions in these movie threads, we also do not tolerate the tossing around of the "True Fan" label. This is seen as flame bait and trolling and WILL NOT be tolerated. We have been through this enough times...Act civilized, treat each other with some amount of respect, and stop trying to bait others with a post completely laden with negative connotation. Keep in mind that there is nothing wrong with agreeing to disagree.

Future posts of this nature WILL be edited, warnings WILL be issued, and people will begin to be banned from threads.

And if they like it, what will you do then?

It's all well and good to claim to speak for the general public, but considering how many different opinions make up said 'general public', anyone claiming to know what they're gonna think ahead of time is gonna have to be prepared to be wrong. Now, it may very well turn out that the general public hate this, vindicating your opinion, but if they DO like it wouldnt that be proof that, just maybe, the changes were a good thing?

He hadn't said one way or another about the movies, but he did say at BotCon that the movie designs won't influence non-movie related toylines or cartoons.

I didn't go to see Catwoman the movie.... and I'm a huge fan of Catwoman (have almost all her comics and several figures). It wasn't Catwoman and the only good thing they did with her was not naming the character Selina Kyle.

Still, I accept and even like some of the TF movie desings. I certainly accept them as Transformers, and even see similarities between them and some TFs from the past ... and I plan to see the movie. Your metaphor ends there.

In all honesty.. I'm semi ok with the movie designs. I realize the need for change, and I really think the change can be good. Would I have liked to see G1 esque Autobots and Decepticons? Sure! I also realize that wasn't a practical approach. I'm going to give it a chance because the alternative is to condem something I know just an inkling about. Not only that, if Transformers does very well, being a bigger GI Joe fan, it's a hope that they'll greenlight the long delayed Joe project. Hasbro wants to be a property company, not merely a toy company. This is the test of that concept.

I'm really reminded of the furvor over the new James Bond film in all of this. Some people were saying Daniel Craig could not be a good Bond because of his hair color, his build, his previous roles, etc... Some fans refused to go (and still refuse to go) see it. What happened? It's been hailed as one of the best Bond films ever. A total reboot of the franchise, filled with new life, taking heavily from the spirit of the books, adding a new modern twist and taking out some of the old standbys (Q, Moneypenny, lots of gadgets). Casino Royale is raking in money and the only thing stopping it from being #1 is a kids movie about Penguins. Nothing can fight Penguins and win.. not even James Bond.

So I have high hopes that Transformers will do just that. Excite the public and give a property a new lease on life. A lot of us who are hopeful would be a lot less... I guess eager about the movie and more laid back if the people who don't like it wouldn't flaunt it in everyone's faces so bad. It's become a bade of honor... almost prideful, to be anti-movie. Deefuzz said it best, we can all agree to disagree, so if you know what buttons to push to get a response, it's best to not push those buttons.

What I dont get about these designs is the need for the claws instead of hands.
I mean all other transformers dont have claws for hands and yet they deside to do so here, I know Bay was trying to make them look more alien and unfriendly but that can be done without the claws.
Also I dont get why most of these transformers dont get full faces so as to be able to get expresions from them, Were it would be harder to do so from these designs.

It really sucks because I was all into the whole emergency hummer thing that could crush anything in his path. Then we found out he transforms into a junkion :(

I know! His vehicle mode kicks ass. It's my favorite Autobot alt mode, and I had an old 70s Camaro, so I thought I'd like that vehicle best.

WOW. I'm gone for a couple of days and business on the movie (and on the boards it seems) has really picked up. Some thoughts on Ratchet:

After seeing the Decepticons look like giant space insects I was disheartened. But I accepted it since they are, after all, evil, and we have had some strange looking TFs in the past (G1 Whirl, anyone?). But after seeing Prime and BB I thought that the Bots would at least retain some semblance of their old selves. Sadly, Ratchet just slammed that chance. I like both modes, don't get me wrong, but I have a really hard time with the head (just like most of the characters). I just don't understand how they are suppose to show emotion with these faces. Wasn't that the greatest appeal of TFs, that they were emotional like us?

Taking the human element totally out of the TFs themselves hurts them. By cutting down their time on screen and giving them near emotion-less faces, they make it nearly impossible for folks besides die hard fans to relate to them.

Right now, I don't like the designs. But I won't say the movie will suck because I haven't seen these guys on screen or anything. Maybe, just maybe they'll throw some CG in there to give them some more emotion. After all, Megs' head DID get changed (not much, but a little), the Energon Cube did become the Allspark, so maybe there's a chance.

Yes, I think G1 designs would have looked better, but I accept the fact they don't have those modes. No problem. But the idea of making ALL the Transformers nothing more than scary, alien weapons of death with no physical emotion will be a dissapointment in my book.

I don't think this is going to happen, per se. But I do feel that when the general public who only recognizes TF by the old G1 days sees these things, they will be surprised. Maybe they'll like em. Who knows. But I really don't want this thing to bomb, then Bay and company get swarmed with hate mail from all over because the movie failed due to poor designs and a poor story. That's no good for Transformers at all, and may very well halt the production of Voltron in 2008.

I just hope that maybe a lil CGI will be added to help the designs translate well on screen. I may not like the designs, but I'm being optimistic until I see the trailer.

I dun like what I'd seen so far. Only Prime fits but still, he's a mechanized tadpole! :thumbdown  Let's hope that the toys do justice but I'm on the fence...

If it is, I guaruntee I won't spend a single dime on it. Transformers will go on, but if they take this route, not for much longer. These kind of designs and faces would ruin the Transformers brand if they made it their main line. I can only imagine the fright on a 7 year old's face when he walks into the theatre thinking he's going to watch Transformers and see's that Predator look-a-like in Starscream with the tenticle lips and the Megatron thing or the no faced Bumblebee. Not to mention how is all that little tiney kibble supposed to form a solid alt mode like a car, jet, or tank?

I can't see Hasbro following suite of a bunch of Hollywood ego blown directors/producers when they have been doing better off with out them selling transformers toys for the last 23 years. And for the sake of the brand, it's better that they don't. There are many ways to keep the characters and mythos fresh without butching the whole elements like the robot design formula that makes Transformers, Transformers.

And when you stop and think about it, these designs really aren't new. They've been attempted before and that line was called Beast Machines. The similarities are pretty striking. That line wasn't very successful, was it? If I recall correctly, it was the nail in the coffin of the beast era and it is also the most criticised of all the series. I also remember Aaron saying in the DVD interview that the Mech forms sold better than those beast toys and were also easier to design.

The only way Transformers follows the route of these strange designs for their main line is if the movie makes alot of money. Like the old saying goes, Money talks, BS walks. That's what scares me about all those that say they don't like the designs but still feel they should pay they're money just out of the small chance and hopes that it MIGHT be good. By then, you've paid your money to them so it doesn't matter if they fullfilled their end of the bargain and made a good movie for you to enjoy. You gotta live with what you see AFTER you pay the cash to get in any way no matter how disapointing it might be to you.

Well, when I went to see Masters of the Universe the Movie when it came out, I loved the designs - and they were to the existing MotU universe what the Baysian designs are to the last 20 years of Transformers. Of course that just goes to show that the eight-year-old me had very poor critical faculties, but still... I loved it. So if I loved those changes then, then kids can love the new Transformers look now.

Even if they will look back on it in years' time with a feeling of despair and loathing... (Damn, but MotU is a *bad* film...)

Um, Hasbro seems okay with the designs. If they had worries about the design aesthetic they'd have raised them before hand.

It's factually inaccurate to think that Hollywood influenced Hasbro to design the toys this way. After all Hasbros GAVE Hollywood the right to make a movie off of their toyline

I actually like the design. But, as a med student, I'm not feeling a personality anything that conveys "Ratchet" or anything related to a compassionate mech-doctor.

I guess it's the imposing head design (that reminds me of something out of the game, Killzone) and maybe the mouth plate. Otherwise, hopefully the movie will change my mind about him.

Like it or not, these designs ARE the main line for 2007. Remember, the main line totally changes every 1-2 years. So, we'll get movie stuff from 2007 to probably part way through 2008, and then a new line, most likely NOT based on the movie (remember that rumored new cartoon... or is it beyond rumor now? I forget...) will emerge for awhile, then another, then maybe a movie sequel line. Or maybe the movie line will continue along with another line. But the movie is what we're getting next year, and then we'll probably get something new the year after that. Just like we got RID after BM, Armada after RID, etc.

    Looks kinda like...

Like the overall form but just too damn busy with the multiple parts. Whereas the alien joints and devisions work on Megatron, it just looks off on Ratchet.

    *ahem*

    I hope this is pre-op.
