By the time these movie toys come out I hope to be caught up on the TF5 toys (though I may just get cogman and call it good if I see him).

Obviously this is just a render for the packaging so it might not be as detailed as the proper model, but, I'm glad they've smoothed the design out, and made it less cluttered. Hope we see the other characters RC cars and Diecast toys soon.

I've pretty much given up on finding Hotrod. I stupidity believed I'd see him in the stores...

Woah, I wasn't expecting that! The design is a lot more different than I thought it would be. It's almost like it's not part of the same continuity. I'm liking what I'm seeing. Looks like they're listening to what people have said it about the movie designs and refining it here with sleeker, simpler designs while retaining visible vehicle parts.

I like how his face is either smoothed out, or has an added panel on top so it doesn't look like a creepy Terminator skull.

I don't care to see this movie and nor am I trying to be negative here but how is it that BB looks like he is 10 and all sleeked down when in ww2 he had the same face as 1,2,3,and 4(just had more sharp edges) and 5? I understand he isn't a camaro and now (85') he is a volks wagon beetle which is a much smaller vehicle but so was his vehicle mode in ww2, it was about the same size as the beetle. Bots age slowly so from the 40's to 80's is about 40 plus years whuch is not nothing compared in cybertronian time. Oh the plotholes in this movie universe.

Really kind of digging the movie to TF Prime with a dash of G1 aesthetic combination.

From the racing stripes, I'm guessing Charlie rehabs Bee into a racing VW, which then carries over to his first Camaro vehicle mode. Those stripes are really close to the same ones that first movie car had, and we already know from pics that he's a more rusted faded beetle at first. Which really fits to what the overall theme seems to be of hope and restoration through bonds of friendship.

Kind of interesting for a metaphor when you think about it. The rusted car modes are his waivering/depressed points. The pristine alt-modes are his hope restored forms. Like a person feeling down that's slightly unkempt. Assuming at least. Kind of hope that's true though. It'd be an interesting way for the visual of 'depression' for cybertronians like how humans have similar. Fits for Megatron too when you compare his DOTM form to his previous, and then his fully pride restored form in TLK.

As for his more youthful helmet look. It's the 80s. Bee is trying out sideburns. Besides, with Cybertronians, lifespans are different than humans. He's more 18-20s ish from allspark launching to the earth to then the 1980s, then about 25-30s ish from the start of the first movie to TLK. WWII he wouldn't have sideburns. Military buzz cut sleek head design for that. Then comes the 70s, and we probably don't want to know what his head design was during that, and this movie is the 80s, trying out some sideburns. 90s he probably went back to buzzcut because human styles got awfully weird in the 90s briefly. Which brings us to the 2000s for the first movie.

So sleek helmet design is more military or 'minuteman' scout kind of style and mindset, then sideburns or other more varied helmet designs may lean more towards his trying to relax and humanize himself style. Thinking about the timeline events that fits. This movie it's said he's worn out, tired of fighting, giving up hope. TLK with the WWII flashback was military timing, cybertronian form was freedom fighter fighting back against the decepticon takeover, and movie 1 is back to military style trying to get back to the mission. With then the rest of the movies either as part of the spec-ops Nest group, or other types of more focused on missions, including the TLK point of trying to save their people from TRF(back to underground freedom fighter).

Woah, he's actually got Beetle fenders on his thighs! I was honestly expecting them to just remove the Camaro fenders like on his '76 Camaro body in '07. But nope, they actually outright changed them! That's definitely something I can appreciate.

The arms look okay, I like that they're sleeker, but I think they should probably look a bit more industrial or 'antique,' to push the Beetle aesthetic.

Looking forward to at least seeing the designs for the other bots.

Now, you see, I actually don't like it, because of the implications in the inevitable 'Charlie working on Bee's engine' scene.

Well, I think that's going to be more comedic, less innuendo. The engine is pretty much only for show to blend in. And at least it's not his tailpipe/muffler. So in anatomy perspective, it's more like his lower back. Assuming the rear bumper and front bumper act as a belt line so to speak. Plus with beetles, you can't exactly bend over to work on them, it's not all that comfortable. They've suggested it's an auto maintenance class though, so maybe that's more how she realizes something ain't right with her car.

Well, in AoE we see Optimus and Bumblebee getting facial upgrades with notable differences. We see Bee start out with his original face, then switched to his AoE face, then back to the original in TLK. Point is, him having a different face here is not necessrily out of the ordinary.
