The takara color scheme reminds me of the hasbro release of the rotf leader.

I prefer the hasbro mpm aesthetic personally

That grey plastic is blurrgghh. I expect TakaraTomy will likely replace it with the same dark grey as Hasbro's and the box images for the final release.

I don't hate it but I do prefer the more DMK colors of the hasbro. The gold paint apps are nice though.

EDIT: it does look just like the box art.

Think it's just for show ? Or a real change on takara's part? Saw someone mention hasbro saying there won't be differences. Anw for laughs , one blue eyebrow 5/10 sticking to Hasbro

I really don't know. Like others have said there's been a ton of misinformation with these figures.

    Whatvif is actually unfinished?

That's the same grey they use for unfinished figures.

Yeah, wait a minute. There's a black code number on the rear right fenders in robot mode.

It just seems so strange for Takara's to have this light of a grey unpainted plastic. I went back and looked at the product shots, and even they leaned more towards the dark grey plastic

Naw, that's molded grey plastic on this figure. The grey you usually see on prototypes is actually paint or primer, as the prototypes are typically molded in wacky colors, or 3D printed nowadays.

This has way too many paint apps to be an early prototype. Probably a production test shot, given the number stamped on his fender. They may change small details before release, but I'd be shocked if they changed the grey plastic this late in the game.

    So yeah, still unfinished.

It reliefs me that the "NO DIFFERENCE" was false all along.

It's settled. Looks like I'll go for Hasbro's version.

I truly get what Takara was going for. That grey plastic matches the silver paint admittedly much better than the darker grey can hope to, especially when it comes to the oil tank assembly. Some reasons
    • those gold body accents and blue feet stripes on the Takara I pined for since day 1. If a Radicon can paint match the blue and suggest a gold color code, I'm at peace with painting on my own. Painting those minor details honestly beats attempting to facelift every light grey part on Takara's, just to potentially overspill on the red circular shoulders and have to match the red.
    • that unsightly grey plastic. Wow, I just can't bring myself to accept it. Since all my TFs have been in storage, the only exposure I've had to TF figures include TLK Voyager Optimus and WJ's M-01. The light shining through the smokestacks on TLK is an eyesore: definitely won't be able to tolerate an entire figure looking like that. The TLK Prime and WJ have dark grey plastic that just looks more rich and Bayverse.
    • the price. I can no longer justify paying over $110 for the figure with its potential flaw. Takara's may have a greater probability of being fixed, but I know now it is at least possible to fix a Hasbro copy. For the price of $99.99 and then some, I'm willing to get a bad copy that I'll grow even more attached to as I rework it to my standards.
With all that said, still can't wait to get MPM-4. Gonna prowl TRU hardcore, and it's gonna be a glorious day when MPM-3 and MPM-4 stand on the shelf together.

I never realized how much i didn't care for the dark gray on the hasbro version, it didn't really bother me, but I think this looks a lot better. Like, if I did buy an MPM-04, it would have to be the TT now. Come on Shadow Fisher or somebody, please save this figure!

I'm waiting for someone to do a new head ... or just the eyes . It's too wide imo , looks like he's constantly straining to look at something or being skeptical about something .

That grey is usually reserved for use when they will be chroming or painting parts silver so any wear on the toy does not show drastically.

That said, I don't think it's being used here for that reason or we will be seeing any further paint applications.

I think the budget in this figure is what it is and what you see is what you're going to get.

If TT does end up painting things silver it's a instant buy for me, but as it is here...I just don't like it as much as I do the hasbro. The light grey ends up swallowing molding detail
