Scale forces Hasbro to put more work into obscure characters who need the extra size/budget. If the fanbase was fine with no proper scaling, I guarantee you they'd do Rampage as a voyager. Without scaling, the next frame of reference is popularity/perceived importance, which is what older toylines went by- hence leader class bumblebee.

I swear that the last release of the leader class bumblebee mold was AOE, it was the only generations toy in Smyths, an Irish and British toy retailer.

Haven't Transformers toys been out of scale for most of their existence? We've had decades of that approach, I think the line can survive a few years of attempting a unified scale and some bickering about it. I mean, if we weren't arguing about scale, we'd be arguing about something else. It'll probably go back to the old approach at some point. Personally, I've been waiting for this approach since the 80s. From my perspective, it's been a long time coming.

Like, people loved the Beast Wars and those toys were hilariously out of scale. And it didn't matter because they were awesome.

I don't think we had scale until Studio/WfC.

I think Rampage (BW) would work best as a voyager :( . What else could he be? Surely a deluxe is too small.

Even just from this one pic, it pretty blatantly isn't.

Rodimus can be much bigger than Hot Rod.

He can also just be a head taller

Rodimus can be bigger than his season 3 car bots

They can also all be the same size.

So what you're saying is Rodimus is commander class because they have a figure of each size variant from the show in the box.

Well, that, or that the g1 cartoon was highly inconsistent about everything.

You sure you aren't thinking of Inferno? To give Rampage enough mass, he'd probably need to be released as a Commander class.

Beast Wars scale is infuriating to me because the toyline's premise is that they're robots turning into (mostly) out of scale animals, but the show still decided to depict them at different scales than the toys used.

    WHY?

That explains the price point at least. This Rodimus features mass-shifting with pocket dimension gimmick.

Weren't the Maximals mostly "to scale" with their alt modes? The exceptions being Rattrap and Airazor.

The toys just did their own thing. But I get the reason for Primal and Megaton both being Ultras, they wanted the Leaders at the top price point and loaded them with gimmicks.

But in the show, it looked better for the good guys gorilla to be the underdog to the big bad rex.

It's kinda funny, because we're going to get a scale Scorponok in Kingdom and he's going to be TINY compared to the original toy we all remember.

Hell, until this scale discussion even started with Kingdom I always just thought of the BW guys as being however big the toys were. What's that called...The Mandela Effect?

Hasbro cares about scale because they are releasing G1 characters before they put G1 to bed. Seige to Kingdom is not shelf warming... well grapple but that’s just grapple. Money talks BS walks. When G1 phase is over I’m Sure Hasbro will do all kinds of weird stuff to test new markets for future lines.

I’m ready happy he has a vehicle mode for the robot without the trailer. He can be Rodimus Prime with the trailer or just Rodimus and hang out with Optimus Prime.

Well, when we got to Beast Machines and had Ultra Nightscream and Basic Silverbolt those people started to take notice.

But I think Hasbro always tried to adhere to some standard of scale throughout Generations, but was held back by the lack of available price points (and budget for those price points) for years, as well as overcoming the stubbornness of the idea that everything in those price points had to be uniform in size even across line rebranding even if that meant quality be damned. However, I do think they overcame that which is how we got the era we have today, and for better or for worse I think that's how things are going to stay for awhile (I vote better).

Well if anyone is really not having any "fun" buying these toys, there's a perfectly good line with some big Optimus and Bumblebee toys galore called Cyberverse sitting right there next to the Generations figures.
