Yep. If we want Transformers to continue as a toyline, they need to ensure there's a steady stream of kids who grow in to it to replace those who grow out of it.

DX Maxross Quarter had an MSRP of less than half that. Macross Quarter isn’t close to Fort Max size, you’re looking at a foot or more. You must be looking at eBay prices. Or you confused it with the Yamato 1/2000 SDF-1 sold in kit form in limited quantities over 10 years ago. 1/72 VF-1J by Kitzconcept has an MSRP now at $160 however that’s a completed toy. Most 1/72 Macross model kits cost $100 less than that. While I see the point you’re trying to make, you have to take economies of scale into account. Macross items are more comparable to the MP line which are produced in less quantities therefore have higher cost on lower production count relative to mainline transformers alone. They’re also still manufactured in China whereas most mainline transformers are manufactured in Vietnam where labor is cheaper and is reflected in price by comparison.

There isn’t really a comparable transforming mass market robot toyline out there on shelves right now at Target/Walmart stateside aside from Transformers. The closest thing on American shelves would be power rangers zords but Hasbro has the license for those so they effectively now own their competition(and this was something they acknowledged back in the mid-2000’s). It’s not really a fair comparison to compare a mass produced mainline transformer to collectors items made in far lower quantities. YMMV whether you think Kingdom Rodimus is worth the price or not.

Even Power Rangers zords isn’t a great comparison, with them you’re dealing with incredibly simplistic engineering and low parts count with large and hollow pieces making up most of the toy.

Transformers are just in an odd place where they’re leaps and bounds more complicated than anything else sold for the same price. At a $20 mass market price I don’t think you’d find anything with the complexity or parts count of a modern deluxe.

Which is probably part of why they've been seeing price increases, to bring them up to the same price as product lines that are arguably technically inferior.

But, over time, BoJ has taken similar steps to HasTak.

Older mecha used more diecast, had more intricate transformations, etc. But they've chosen to, generally, keep them the same size and reduce diecast, conversion steps, etc.

They've also eliminated spring loaded missiles, and minimized sounds/lights. One trick has been to take the lights/sounds and put them in *one* toy that a bunch of others can then activate using different combos of pins/pegs.

That's one of the reasons BoA and BoJ split around Boukenger/Operation Overdrive. It was getting harder for BoA to put BoJ Megazords on shelves at a price that allowed them to turn a profit.

BoJ opted a while ago to keep their mecha a certain size and have taken steps to keep that going for 45 years.

Don’t forget licensing costs. From what I heard the licensing costs for Stars Wars isn’t cheap. That’s why all the transformers collabs like Back to Future and Top Gun are more expensive due to licensing costs.

Yup, my bad man I did mix them up. Thanks!

1/72 fully loaded Messiahs from Frontier are def over $100.

Why isn't it fair? I'm not comparing the quality of them against each other, just the price of two collectors lines. I could've worded it better but I meant that as something I'd like to get into collecting, TF is the more economically feasible and easier to keep up with over Macross.

$20 a pop for deluxes/$30 for voyagers/$50 for leaders is manageable when Macross is steadily over leader prices for the minimal size I would want them at. Edit: Rodimus, Sky Lynx and Jetfire are outliers at $80 but not the norm. End edit

That's also not to say I wouldn't pay the prices for Macross models, I'm saying it's different budgetary considerations for them and I'm just glad I don't have to deal with them for TFs.

Those are only in kit form and under $100.
It’s because you’re comparing a mainline sold in mass market stores with much higher production quantities with smaller collector lines produced in much smaller quantities and primarily sold in Japan. I get the gist of your post but your comparing apples with very different oranges. The closer comparison would be relative value for a WFC figure compared to an MP Transformer but even that would still be an apples to orange comparison but still, a better comparison. For example, Kingdom Rodimus does some things better than MP Hot Rod and Rodimus yet costs less than the latter.

He’s one solid boi. Got him on a sale at leader price point and he’s well worth it.
What you lose in size compared to Skylynx he makes up in engineering and heft.
That said I doubt I will get him at Commander price.

$80 plus tax and shipping from BBTS or $85 and tax minus 5% from Target. I’m fine with whichever, depends what happens first.
One of my local Targets got Sky Lynx and Skorponok same day as the first sightings so hopefully Rodimus will hit soon.

Target preorders pushed back and brick seek shows out of stock…
    Walmart shows nothing my ass…
Who wants to bet he will be on some random shelves for the holiday weekend. And a fresh coat of dust come Monday too. 100$ is a big chunk on top of 4th of July fun…. Good thing I kept a crisp Ben for just such an occasion.

Pretty sure Brickseek and Popfindr won’t work because he isn’t exclusive. I’d also say we probably won’t see him this weekend because we haven’t had a single confirmed sighting in the US.

EDIT: Even less likely to work on Popfindr because the listing has been blocked. The code returns nothing now.
