Hey, gun enthusiast in the TF world. Aside from most S7 members using M16A2's, I found it a nice detail that Burns is the only one using a heavier and bigger caliber than the US standard military issue M16 platform. During the scene where he and S7 met with Shatter and Dropkick, he was the only one carrying a H&K G3KA4 or a HK51. A 7.62x51 H&K battle rifle rather than a M16 assault rifle variant chambered in 5.56. Could he used an M14 rifle instead? He could, as that was a US military issue weapon but perhaps he would want a smaller, and more reliable, rifle. But I digress. Also, while I thought it was nice reference to 80's action flicks, it would also be reasonable for Burns to have Desert Eagle sidearm chambered either in .357 mag or .44 mag. Since well, again, a bigger and heavier caliber would probably fare better to a robot than what the recent standard issue M9 9mm pistol. Although, Burns would probably do well with a .45 ACP in terms of performance than a .357/.44.
Guns adopted by the US military: M16A2 assault rifle: 1982 M9 handgun: 1985 M60E3 light machine gun: 1986 Guns made/introduced/fielded but not adopted by the US: HK G3KA4 assault rifle: no exact year but one of the previous variants, the G3A4 entered German military in 1974. G3KA4 would probably come after this variant some time. Desert Eagle Mark I .357/.44 handgun: 1983 The last two guns mentioned were not adopted or used by the US military. If were being realistic, it could be Burns' personal weapons. Talk about logistical hell for the Deagle though...
When you're part of a shadowy government organization, I'm sure you get tons of fun privileges. I was wondering if they'd slip up on gun dates in the film, but looks like they did pretty well! Did you catch what the 'harpoon guns' were made out of? It was some sort of chop job, but it looked like something like a browning 50cal on each side?
O, ya, I noticed. M2's are pretty much every in the military. As for harpoons mounted with M2's? What a coincidence!
I'm a gun enthusiast here too! Firearms done right is something I appreciate quite a bit in movies. But speaking of the Transformers ones, the thing that really stuck out to me was Age of Extinction. I just think it's funny that the whole movie was pretty much a Salient Arms advertisement, what with Cemetery Wind being all decked out with SA Glocks and AR-15s.
