Been playing since 2.0. Currently 60 on, well everything. Have a medium fc house and two airships, we are working on a third. Me and my friends play most evenings, running dungeons, treasure maps etc.

 

I just hit my final 60, now to fart around with PvP for a while, and maybe look at 3 star crafting, for the investment that'll be.

 

So I thought about trying this game out (PC free trial) but geez the download speed is ridiculous.

0.70 mb/sec...600+ minutes to complete. Really???.

maybe i'll try again late tonight see if the speeds are higher.

 

If you get to play, i suggest playing as a tank, the wait times for the Duty finder for dungeons is very high as DPS

 

That download speed could be related to the expac that just came out. More new/returning players and such.
Healers get good ques too.

I managed to get to the Heavensward expansion but i'm not very good so dungeons are a pain for me, get too anxious about screwing up and getting the party wiped.

New expansion was announced yesterday. Endwalker

 

This is my 3rd attempt at the game and I think it finally stuck for me. Still very early on into Heavensward and I am mainly in it to play the Automata content so we will see if I make it into Endwalker.

 

Early access is on for Endwalker. Massive queues to log in the game. Did manage to play some of the Endwalker MSQ

The story is slow going so far, not as many feels as Shadowbringers

I did the free trial and quite liked the game, got a White Mage and a Paladin both up to level 60, currently stuck in the middle of Heavensward because I don't like having to break off the story to go level another class to get that massive MSQ exp dump per quest (current class is a level 27 BLM). I was going to wait until Endwalker's release so I could get Stormblood and Shadowbringers along with it, but with the servers being hammered I think I'm just going to wait until January before trying to jump back in.

 

Finished the Endwalker MSQ... Holy shit this game can wreck you emotionally something fierce.

 

Seems appealing, and I've enjoyed the demo so far, but not at the spot to spend for an active subscription just yet

 

If i may ask, where are you at in the game?

Patch 6.1 is scheduled for mid april

A new chapter of the MSQ (Main Story Quest) will be released. Starting a new saga after the end of the Zodiark / Hydealyn storyline in 6.0.

All story dungeons from A Realm Reborn (2.0) will now be able to be run with NPC's. So now can complete that portion of the MSQ without grouping up with other players. Making FFXIV a lot more attractive to single players

 

My bad, I never did make good on my "getting back to you". I quit playing for most of the year with the demo, but a new friend got me to not only pick it up, but been doing the subscription since late May. I have a new character that's more like me to pair with that friend, whose currently taking time off for "Elden Ring", and brought some life back to my old Demo character. I haven't got through the "Realm Reborn" portion yet. My new main is half way through MSQ so I can resume that with my friend, so been doing a lot more crafting and gathering, and my old Demo character is further along, trying to get to Lv 60 for some new class options. Been having a lot of fun so far.

 

As somebody who's been paying subscription for about two months now, after taking the free trial as far as I could get with the MSQ without losing any of that EXP bonus from the story quests, and there's been some changes to the end of the AAR MSQ so the final level isn't as much of a timesink due to unskippable cutscenes.

Also, I'm at the start of Stormblood, so without spoiling anything of the amazing Heavensward, I STRONGLY recommend you get Lancer and level it to Dragoon level 50 (and get the full armor set) before you start the quest "Before the Dawn" (which is the last mission before you start the Heavensward MSQ). There's a lot of side lore that's involved with the Dragoon quests that, while not necessary to enjoy the narrative of Heavensward, will really help frame the context of certain plot elements within the MSQ (including one rather important character's entire backstory which would otherwise be completely ignored normally).

EDIT: Oh, and do try to get the Binding Coils of Bahamut done as soon as you're done with the main AAR questline. It's lengthy but it too involves a HELL of a lot of lore that won't be brought up otherwise. The loot drops are also dope as hell too - the Dreadwyrm Greatsword is pretty much my standard Dark Knight glam currently, it just looks so much better than any of the other greatswords I'm seeing at level 60.

 

I'll consider that, I have considered at times having my new main take up Lancer/Dragoon on the side since that'd mean he'd have every starting class in Gridania and have something else to do while I wait for my friend on that character.

 

Do it. I'm trying not to spoil it but the stuff in the Dragoon questline genuinely will feel like a prologue to Heavensward given the involved elements. As in "this stuff should have largely been in the main story quest" type lore.

 

6.2 in late august will bring several of the Heavensward MSQ dungeons to the Duty Support system so will be able to do them with NPC's. The plan is by 6.5 to have all of stormblood's MSQ dungeons available to Duty support as well.

I suggest doing Coils of Bahamut unsynced and getting some high level players to help with that. it's still thought to be some of the hardest content in the game. If you want a real challenge, Ultimate Coils (known as UCOB) is a big one

I still havent done it or any of the raids (including Crystal Tower as i reached HW before it became mandatory)

i'm thinking of starting a new character and stream the whole journey on twitch or youtube

 

I accepted a public invite to a Ceremony of Eternal Bonding.

Never in my life did I think I would sit in an official wedding in a MMO. Closest I'd ever been was one time back in my City of Heroes days when I exited City Hall and found myself in a crowd watching an impromptu wedding take place.

This one is blowing the pants off that, though, fully rendered cutscenes and everything.

Yeah, an absolute chad of a mentor heard I wanted to try doing Coils and he ran me unsynced through the WHOLE thing, basically giving me a personal history lesson, it was awesome. But even he, at level 90, needed two others to help with Coil T9 - if you've done it, you know why.

I also would strongly recommend doing Crystal Tower - it's really easy and doesn't take that long, the worst part is the second boss of the World of Darkness because Doom is such an annoying attack.
