I get it. They’re pretty expensive to import. But it should be noted that Takara has priced these guys lower than they do their mainline Voyager class figures.

That would also assuredly explain why Transformers' market share on Japanese toy shelves has shrunk so dramatically. Looking at something like the TF.Wiki's page on toy releases, for example, a big chunk of toys are Takara Tomy Mall exclusive. In other words, kids can't just walk into a department store's toy department and see a bunch of Transformers on the shelves, compared to Ultraman and Kamen Rider and Gundam etc. Like I mentioned earlier, those simple toys with only shoulder and waist articulation are pretty much everywhere where toys are sold.

But I still argue that the "kid toys" still make up a big chunk of the sales, specifically because of parents (or other family members) buying gifts for younger children. For example, my sister-in-law sent a picture just last week showing that my younger nephew has an iron grip on Tacticon Optimus Prime, even sleeping with it clutched in his little hand. I'm now more likely to go get more of the Tacticons now that I know at least one of the young'uns likes them. They're nowhere near old enough to want to go out and buy them themselves, after all.

They also have quite a bit of die-cast parts as well, right? Is die-cast normally a lot more expensive than a similarly-sized toy made completely of plastic? I kind of expect that to be the case, especially because of the weight when it comes to shipping.

Oh I'm sure they do make up a huge chunk of money.

These figures are TINY. Even with a very small piece of die-cast (the car's undercarriage) they're so small you'd weigh them in grams. It would take 5-6 Bumblebees to make up the weight of one deluxe.

Huh. Is that right? Welp, in that case, I guess I'd just chalk it up to "Japanese toys can be stupid expensive." I'm looking at you, Mafex Marvel stuff.

You just know that once there's a Missing Link Starscream, there's sure to be ML Thundercracker, ML Skywarp, ML Dirge, ML Thrust and ML Ramjet on the horizon too.

I would be cool with a minifigure that fit inside the robot, but do your thing Ono.

I would rather see MP-60 be Masterpiece Metalhawk & MPG-09 remain as Super Ginrai but oh well, let's hope there will be a Masterpiece Metalhawk in future.

Thanks a lot, have read it, in general Ono says a lot about the past Microman and the heady days of making Car Robot in the early years, hardly much about MPG Ginrai, but the info about the early years is still very valuable
