Anyone else remember the Family Channel Zorro show in the late 80s/early 90s? I remember liking that one alot.

Yeah, I was interested in seeing your thoughts on this. I agree, I'd rather have a modern telling of the original Zorro. At least at first. Re-establish who he was, and then you can move on from there.

But hey, maybe this Z series with reignite some interest in the original character, and someone else will make a new show or movie.

My memory is pretty hazy on it, but I don't think West played was his dad. Still, it was cool to have one of the Batmen in a Zorro show, considering the influence.

I guess it was a guest spot. Wiki just shows 1 episode. Hazy memories but i guess he was memorable. Looking over the other guests, i don't remember them in it .

IMDB has him listed as a Dr. Wayne (appropriate)

"Zorro" The Wizard (TV Episode 1990) - IMDb

This is a pretty neat exchange:

"Zorro" The Wizard (TV Episode 1990) - Adam West as Dr. Henry Wayne - IMDb

The 1998 Mask of Zorro with Anthony Hopkins as Diego was about him being imprisoned and later escaping to seek revenge on the governor of California who put him there and killed his wife and stole his daughter. After escaping imprisonment , he befriends a Alejandro Murrieta played by Banderas whos brother was killed by Captain Love (henchman to the governor) and both team up with Hopkins character training him to be his successor. Diego as Zorro is maybe only in the first 10-15 minutes. It seems Zorro take on the Count of Monte Cristo but it had good practical fights/music/et desgin. It was helemd by Martin Campbell, director of Casino Royale and Goldeneye.

The second Banderas film (2005_ has Alejandro's young biological son in it causing mischief and doubting his father until the climax where he learns of his dads alter ego and helps him defeat a Europeans plot to destroy the US. This one wasnt as well received despite having the same director.

It would be nice if this new show would do flashbacks to the original Zorro. One thing that it has going for it is that it's a sequel to the traditional Zorro story, not a retelling like the new King Arthur or something. It would be cool if it ignited interest in the character again.

Just employ a team of good writers is all I ask. We've seemingly had a bunch of these types of shows throughout the years, the Charlie's Angels re-re-remake being one of them, and the writing has always been crap. It's like they hired a group of horny 16 yr. olds to produce the script. I like T&A and pretty girls as much as the next guy, but I'd rather have a new show with substance and good writing. Looking at the image they provided doesn't exactly inspire confidence that a compelling script is paramount.

They could probably make her the original Zorro's daughter or granddaughter depending what time period they want to set it in. That would probably alleviate some criticism since it wouldn't be a true genderswap since the original male version did exist.

The show I remember was the early 19th century. Plenty of room for his daughter to be Zorro and the setting would be the same.

Well, the description in the article says the main character is "a female descendant of the warrior bloodline who will go to great lengths to protect the defenseless in her community", that sounds to me exactly like what they're doing. So long as "the warrior bloodline" (not "a warrior bloodline") refers to Zorro's bloodline, anyways.

She's the type who wouldn't lower herself to tv. She thinks she's still A list.

I think that's what they're going for. If this is indeed the same project as the "Z" movie, it will be set in a post-apocalyptic future. I definitely give them props for thinking outside the box, and tying it to the original lore.

If it is post-apocalyptic/futuristic, I hope they really take advantage of the setting. I want to see Zorro riding on a mechanical horse, using a laser whip, that sort of crazy stuff. Maybe give her a Ford Mustang called "Tornado". Make Bernardo a cyborg. Just get creative. A while back they released a proof-of-concept trailer, and I wasn't very impressed. It just looks like one of those boring gritty futures that takes itself way too seriously. Obviously the concept has changed since then, so I hope they've spiced up the world. They could really have fun with the idea. Zorro has always had a sense of humor to it, so an over-the-top setting would work.

ZORRO Female-Led Reboot From Sofia Vergara And Robert Rodriguez In The Works At NBC

Sin City director Robert Rodriguez has co-written the series with his sister Rebecca (Doom Patrol, Snowpiercer), who will also direct. Modern Family actress Vergara will produce via her LatinWe company along with Ben Siverman and Howard T. Owens’ Propagate.

This modern-day take on the classic western adventure tale centers on Sola Dominguez, "an underground artist who fights for social injustice as contemporary version of the mythical Zorro. Her life is threatened by several criminal organizations after she exposes them."

If say it’d be dead on arrival, but CW is already setting up their own funeral.

When my sister and I were younger we tried to do an interlibrary loan to get Disney's Zorro's Season 2, but they mistakenly gave us Season 2 of the '90s show (Season 2 of the Disney show seems really hard to come by).

I recall liking it fine, but not being able to get fully invested because of the different cast. Kind of like how people reacted to Alden Ehrenreich as Han. At the time Guy Williams's was Zorro to me, and it felt weird seeing someone else in the role. I do plan on rewatching it at some point, and I feel like I'll have a lot more appreciation for it now.

Btw, post-apocalyptic Zorro could work, after all, anyone remembers we even had a futuristic Batman Beyond style Zorro once.

Who knew, all those Deviantart artists who drew R63 pictures of every male hero ever... they were the pioneers of the 2010-2020s and predicted the future trend! ;)  [/sarcasm]
When the media is so out of ideas, they just genderswap every character ever made instead of coming up with new ideas.

We will know when CW has breathed its last, because then they will finally cut their losses and cancel Batwoman, as show that's widely mocked and only followed by people who review it ironically, and that brings absolutely no money for them.

Co-penned by the trio and to be directed by Rebecca Rodriguez, in Zorro, a young Latinx woman seeking vengeance for her father’s murder joins a secret society and adopts the outlaw persona of Zorro
I may be out of the loop since I live in Hungary where the closest latin people are in Italy, who are descended from the romans, but... what the heck is Latinx? How do you even pronounce that???

It's a word made up by fools who refuse to use Latino or Latina for the sake of being "politically correct".
And that's as deep as I'm getting on that.
