What are some of your favorite war movies? In no particular order mine are

Saving Private Ryan - advanced action sequences and incredible acting
Platoon - Strong story when things are not black and white
Full Metal Jacket - R. Lee Ermey and the sniper scene
Lone Survivor- Very emotional. Felt extremely realistic. Didn't even feel like a movie but more so reality

Kind or war movies but not really:
Captain America There First Avenger - is a comic book movie but set in World War II and has a fun Indiana Jones style feel

    Red Dawn - 80's classic

    Notable mentions:
    Das Boot

Yeah those are pretty much the top's on my list.

Lone Survivor however was extremely difficult for me to watch. It took multiple sessions for me to finally get through the movie - it made me physically ill/sick and induced certain "feelings". Certain combat scenes in general set me, either in a good way or bad.

I don't like war movies, but I did enjoy Glory and Gettysburg.

    the movies i have seen that i like, in no order at all;

war horse; one of the best great war films, from the point of view of a horse.
Full Metal Jacket; this is one of those few movies i'd watch everytime it is on tv.
    Pan's Labyrinth
Downfall; a movie that humanizes hitler, and his SS. basically turning them into less evil monsters, and more of bunch psychopaths who have created a suicide murder cult. that just happened to cost the lives of over 40 million people world wide.
Defiance; probably Daniel Craig's best performance to date.
Tora Tora Tora; the best Pearl Harbor movie.
    The Last of the Mohicans
    Patton
MacArthur; which i actually like better then Patton.
    Anne Frank; the whole story.
    Tomorrow when the war began
    Ironclad
    Casualties of War
    Heaven and Earth
flowers of war; Bale at his best.

    Inglorious Basterds
    Captain America

Unless you don't count those as actual war movies. If not, then The Hurt Locker, as it is really the only actual war movie I have seen.

I'm just not into war movies and have never really watched any outside of HL and this one movie from the early 2000s that was boring as hell about some sniper.

the longest day is one of my favorites that i don't hear about a lot. super long, about 3 hours without commercials but it's a must see if you like strategy. it goes into heavy detail from all sides of the war and offers a glimpse into how it touched everybody.

Saving Private Ryan is my favorite WWII film.

We Were Soldiers is my favorite Vietnam War film.

Lone Survivor is my favorite modern war film.

I also like Full Metal Jacket, but it is just a bit hard to watch for me especially after I got to write down my grandfather's Vietnam memories for a book that he and his old war buddies are putting together.

I haven't seen Hamburger Hill mentioned so I'll add that one to the list.
