I have all the molds but Rodimus.(he's on the way) So, It's hard to choose between Grimlock and Prime. Prime's big and built like a tank, and you could knock out a burglar with him if you had to. Plus, he's the same Prime I watched every day after school. Grimlock has that same g1 nostalgia down in T Rex mode, but his Robot mode is more detailed and awesome, if smaller and lighter than Prime.
Me Grimlock best Masterpeice! I just wish they would give all the Dinobots MP treatment.....that would be awesome.
MP-01 for me. Most iconic character in a close to perfect rendition plus, it's so big yet so solid it gives me a real "that's way more than a collectible toy" feel everytime I look at it.
For accessories it's Prime and Megatron. Matrix, Megatron gun, iconic blaster rifle, energy axe, awesome! Megatron's got his Prime shootin gun and his Prime slashin lightsaber, the neat mace, and Kremzeeek! Beats the hell out of Dr. Arkeville, or some apron and bowtie.
They're all pretty OK, but none are that impressive, at least not anymore. If the line had fewer faults I'd be more excited about the figures. MP-01's mold: Too big, stiff and heavy. Looks good, but with slightly off aesthetics and proportions. Weak ankles. Seeker mold: While not "fragile," neither sturdy. Transformation is annoying and without modifications he has those horrible "samurai swords." The chest on my Skywarp won't stay together when I rotate up the shoulders due to how strong the ratchets are. Megatron: I do not own him, but pretty fragile from everything I've heard. Pictures make him look like an emaciated old man. Grimlock: A nice design, but somehow overwhelming. QC issues on him have resulted in loose-ish legs in each mode. His robot mode foot poseability is more showy gimmick than useful. The T-Rex mode is nice, but weighed down with too many gimmicks, most of which only barely work. Hot Rod: Probably my favorite by concept and design and the most elegantly engineered as far as what and how things happen, but his parts and construction leave him a QC nightmare and his feet are mush. The original is known for being obscenely frustrating, the Hasbro version only fixes a couple problems and introduces the screwy elbow problem. Perhaps the MP-09B release will finally give this figure the quality construction it deserves? However, everything I've seen of MP-10 makes it look fantastic. Barely any gimmicks that aren't external or simple. No abuse of diecast. Solid joint design. Fun looking transformation. Looks excellent in both modes. Sexy ankles.
Owning only one MP, I'd have to say my current favorite is MP Skywarp, the Walmart version. I just love the huge big black jet alt. mode and how hefty it is, and my only real gripe in robot mode is those stupid hip kibble parts and how he can't spread his legs all that far because of the notch. I DID recently discover he actually has double joint knees, though, so he can still strike some cool poses on the stand.
Grimlock. By a country mile. I've owned all of the MP molds at one time or another, and I have to say there are just too many flaws in the other figures (hence why I sold them all). Grimlock seems to be the only one who is free from stuff like floppy ankles on a figure heavier than the sun, or a fiddly transformation with lots of weak joints.
Waiting until I get MP-10 in (in a couple days). But right now it's Hot Rodimus/Rodimus Convoy because he's like a dream come true / impossibility I thought would never happen. I have all the Japanese and American ones too. Randy
I'd have to go with the popular vote of Grimlock... he's probably all around my favorite MP figure. Although, I have the most copies of the MP Seeker mold: MP-03, 06, 07; Hasbro Starscream, and two Skywarps; and the I-gear Coneheads.
