What are your favorite designs of the evil purple robot scientist/assassin cyclops? I really like most of his incarnations, although WfC stands the most out for me.
Movie by far. Say what you want about the portrayal but that design is among the best the movies have to offer.
There all basically the same can't screw up shockwave(except animated who made him a skinny jeans wearing reindeer, and idw who made him have a face)
-G1 all the way. So iconic. -Prime is an awesome design as well, giving him some really interesting body elements. -Animated is good, but I missed the cannon hand. -The movie design, while not the standard character, is impressive. -Transtech is creative and unusual. I wish it would have been explored more. I loathe the FoC, Cloud and Energon designs. As a lifelong Shockwave fanboy, it saddens me to dislike these so much, but I just can't accept them. -FoC is scrawny and weak looking, with a weasel-like head design. What makes it worse is it was adopted by IDW. -Cloud's purple Whirl is boring. -The Energon design is gawdawful, with that ugly cannon arm, clown feet and security camera head.
Animated. He looked so fucking cool. And grim. The lanky proportions and expressionless face combined with the claws and antlers made him look like an otherworldy monster who's impartial to your petty human troubles. What? Doesn't Energon Shockwave just have a normal Shockwave head? You sure you didn't confuse it with a TF07 drone head?
No, it has a square 'face' on an elongated head. The shape always reminded me of an older security camera.
Oh. That's, like, such a small thing I didn't even notice. Just looks like Shockwave to me. Also, you'd think looking like a security camera would be perfect for Shockwave.
You got your shockwaves mixed up yaujta animated's head looks way more like a security camera than energon Energon is basically g1 shockwave, a boxy head. while animated is more rectangular on a thin neck.
Maybe I'm just bias because I detest the overall design in general. The pic posted of the Energon design... If the figure looked more like that, I wouldn't hate it as much. Regular right hand and an elbow on the left arm do wonders for it.
My vote goes to Hearts of Steel, for finding an era-appropriate alt-mode that will still give Shockwave his iconic cannon hand. Plus his asymmetric conversion scheme really blew my mind the first time I read that concept art gallery.
Man, I wish that Hearts of Steel toys were a thing that exists. I think the robot mode for Prime Shockwave is amazing. Though I do think H-tanks are a bit boring and prefer Shockwave's alt mode to be more ray-gun/FoC-ish, the Prime figure's bulk gives him an imposing presence. He avoids a problem that I have with his more traditional designs in that he does not have thin, flat legs. Plus, replacing the simple hose on his gun arm with a heavier belt-fed look is a great, if minor, improvement. As much as I love Animated and love Shockwave's voice in that series, that design is probably my least favorite. The antlers replacing the more traditional fin antennas and the lack of a gun arm don't really scream Shockwave to me. The Doubledealer shtick is cool, but it resulted in his alt mode just being another boring H-tank and no awesome robot mode to make up for it. I do not think it is a bad design, just bad for Shockwave. If I did not have the show for context, I would have thought that design was just a random, generic cyclopean Decepticon.
