its time for my small rant of the day

    BEST:

G1- sure there pretty much bricks but they looks awesome as hell

Classics- updated G1s whats not to love

Cybertron- what can I say they have alot of playability and so many great characters too oh and I love the cyber key gimmick too

Alternators- all are just so awesome you cant have just one

Animated- the figures are just so awesome and most emulate the show perfectly

    WORST:

Beast Wars- Transformers that turn into rodents=FAIL

Beast Machines- Transformers that turn into rodents with wheel feet=even more FAIL

    INBETWEEN:

Headmasters-ok I really like Headmasters and they had alot of awesome figures with a very cool gimmick but your screwed if you loose the headmaster

G2- I also really like G2 as my first TF was from the G2 line but some of the clors are just blinding

Masterpiece- there only here because ive yet to get any even though I already know there awesome

G2 for me. Its what I started on, I have alot of memories with it. And as I say to everyone- it introduced alot of important features and technologies we still see in Transformers since then.

Cybertron is a close second, so many excellent molds.

Masterpiece: Definitive representation of these characters
Classics: Update to G1; lots of articulation and poseability
G1: Where it all began; nostalgia

Certainly Classics/2.0 as number one for me. They offer numerous classic characters with modern construction. Then comes the Alternator/binaltech line, I mean, actual licensed models... love it.

After those it's kind of give or take for me.

G1 (1986-1990) is my favorite toy line. Animated is a close second.

    G2.
Some of my favourite molds; Laser Rod Optimus, Cyberjets, Darkwing/Smokescreen, Jolt, Megatron...All fantastically articulated and cool looking, whilst retaining vehicular transformations (not that I have anything against Beast Wars, but jet robots are more intimidating), without the horrible aesthetic of all those RiD cars, which had stupid looking legs...

    cybertron and classics/universe.

it was because of cybertron's cartoon and the toys that got me interested long enough and after Classics came out around that time it got me to like G1 and boom i'm a fan for life.

    1. Masterpiece. Complexity, articulation, finish, great designs, exactly what I want from a Transformer. Megs is the only disappointment so far, for his "meh" robot mode... which is the most important mode for me.

    2. BTs/Alts, altho I don't like all the moulds unreservedly. Same reasons as above really, complex and well-articulated to differing degrees. Also the scale alt modes of actual vehicles are excellent. The Alternity line will probably end up in this category for me too, I think they look rad.

    3. Classics & Universe Classics; again, some decent articulation and designs in a number of 'em, especially the newer ones. Good updates to the originals.

    4. G1, because it's what I played with as a child - and the packaging still rocks. Who could have imagined such a timeless design for 80's toy boxes? Honestly, whoever came up with that should be given a graphic design medal.

    Honorary mentions to:

    Hybrid Style, because I loved that THS-02 Convoy... wish they'd carried that line on;

The 2007 Movie line - I don't like any of the toys, they're way too inaccurate IMO, but I think the Movie designs themselves are absolutely awesome - so I'm hoping against hope for a vast improvement in accuracy of the toys (in at least one size class, if not all) for TF2. Masterpiece Movie Transformers, c'mon Hasbro, you know you want to pour money down that drain for the 5 of us who want them :D

For me, the top lines for current collecting are Classics/Universe, as they have a fantastic mix of good looks and articulation.

By extension, I'm also really heavily into Cybertron figs, who are on the whole are of the same kind of values as the Classics line. They may not be iconic characters, and personally I have no affinity for the characters they do represent, but several work well as homages, and others you can just use to introduce fan-made characters. The only thing I really don't like about that line is the Cyber Key-activated gimmicks. I'm perfectly happy with most of the features themselves, but I've rigged almost all of them to activate with a button or switch instead, as I hate the idea of having to plug in extraneous parts to make them work.

And also by extension, Energon Decepticons, and RiD, for much the same reasons.

G2's where all the really kickarse articulation started, and for that, I love it to bits. Figs like the Cyberjets, Illuminators and Stealth Assault, let's face it, easily stand up to the test today. As I've said a few times recently, I think it's a real shame we haven't seen any Illuminator (Laser Rod) redeco love, ever.

I do eventually come to G1, naturally. A lot of them may well be bricks, but they're still extremely playable now, and who doesn't love the memories they bring back?
