While Optimus is typically always sporting his red and blue color scheme in every incarnation there are a few exceptions to this rule.

I don't really count BW Optimus in this because he does still have the traditional colors in his robot mode parts. It's not as prominent as it normally is but it is there. The grey or black takes up most of the color scheme because of the beast mode. I do count the Pre-BW retool of Cybertron Crumplezone though... It's the exact same color scheme but this one doesn't have the excuse of a beast mode to explain why the red and blue isn't more prominent.

TM Primal does have blue but there isn't really any red to speak of.

Optimal Optimus again, the blue is still there but he seems to have swapped out the red for orange.

Beast Machines Optimus Primal is totally missing any sign of his traditional colors. I think this is part of the reason this design is hated so much. There's nothing even remotely resembling Optimus on this design.

The next one is kind of unique being the first Optimus we get to see in Traditional and nontraditional colors. There is still red in there though not in the usual places. I think this is the only one to color his mouth plate. The blue is either missing or a different shade entirely, I'm not entirely sure.

Then we have Micheal Bay's idea of an alternate Optimus Prime color scheme that I think makes him look like Ultra Magnus. Normally I wouldn't count white repaints because he's a different character but in this case it's still Optimus for some reason.

RID Mega Prime refers to when the original Primes temporarily lent him power at the end of Season 1 and most of his blue turned black. Blizzard Strike and Desert Camo I think are pretty self explanatory. It's actually because of this Optimus that I decided to make this thread considering how many different versions of this guy there are. I don't really like the Blizzard colors cause again I think it makes him look like Ultra Magnus.

Other is of course for anything that I couldn't include in the poll. There's only so many options I can put on there and there wasn't room for Shattered Glass Optimus Prime or that Green repaint of the Beast Hunters mold.

Please note that Optimus Prime repaints as a different character do not count. So no Nemesis Primes or Ultra Magnus color schemes allowed... not that it really makes much of a difference when you can still pick Optimus Primes that look like them but for some reason are still Optimus Prime.

Anyway... I decided to pick one that is CLOSE to traditional colors without actually being traditional and one that is completely off. I actually really like Dawn of Future Past Optimus cause not only does it make his color scheme primarily black but it also gives him a vehicle mode that isn't a truck. The traditional red and blue is still in there, you can still tell it's Optimus but it's a much different take on him which I like. For the totally wrong colors version I went with RID Desert Camo. I like it because even though there isn't a hint of his original color scheme in there it still looks like Optimus and doesn't remind me of a totally different character.

 

I like both the DoFP Primal and Powerlinx Prime colors, but really, both are homaging BW Season One Optimus Prime: primary black, with a blue head and potentially other blue bits, and small red bits for flare.

I'd really like to see a future Optimus in those colors, but I doubt it would happen, given how every design blatantly homages G1 Optimus.

 

No Machine Wars / Thunderclash?

 

I'd say either his Machine Wars deco or his Armada Powerlinx deco.

 

I am a fan of his Powerlinx Armada colors, Silver Knight colors from AOE, and the G2 Combat Hero colors.

Nightwatch Optimus Prime

 

Armada Powerlinx (Final Battle) Optimus Prime.

It's one of the very few Armada figures I still have (Megatron and some BW repaints being the others). There's just something about those colours that I absolutely love on this mould. The figure already looks intimidating with his powerful shoulders and arms, and in these colours he's even more a brute.

It's the reason I'm really hoping we will get a Masterpiece Micron Legends Convoy. No interest in the regular colours, but the Powerlinx/FB repaint...I so want that.

 

Machine wars?

His machine wars deco is red and blue

 

Yeah, but it's not the same scheme and layout as a traditional Optimus. It's largely white, and the blue and red aren't quite in the typical places. His arms are devoid of any red and blue, and his chest is mostly grey for example. He also has a lot of gold.

 

I think i enjoy the Energon "Costco" Giftset Grey/Yellow color scheme



There's Something about the Dark Grey, Red and Yellow with Hazard Stripes that appeal to me.

 

I'm a fan of the red/black ones (Galaxy Force, DOTM Fireburst Optimus Prime, RID 2015 Optimus Prime)

 

I was a huge fan of the Optimal Optimus colors.

 

I don't think the few differences warrant adding him to a nontraditional color scheme with list

I'll always love the classic red and blue color scheme, but outside of that, I am a sucker for the Armada Powerlinx colors. So much that I've custom-painted my Deluxe Armada Optimus Prime into those colors.

 

Corona Sparkplug (or Goldfire as he's quite clearly meant to be a Goldbug homage) was always my favorite part of that figure. I think he was the only Powerlinx Mini-con to be remolded rather than just a straight repaint. Anyway considering all the other Powerlinx characters had new Mini-cons as well, what did you do with Over-Run? There's not really a basis for a Powerlinx Over-Run considering the official Powerlinx toy came with an entirely different Mini-con.

 

Sadly nothing. The Armada Prime I got didn't come with Over Run.

I guess the Year of the Horse MP-10 is still mostly traditional colors, but what color variations there are just make it pop for me.
