Even though it's alot early, It's time we take a lookback of the year's Movies. My favorites are The Dark Knight Rises, Ted, Wreck-It-Ralph, Avengers & Frankenweenie. And Yes, I will go see The Hobbit, just after Christmas.
Here are mine: 1. Chronicle - I usually don't tolerate found-footage films, but I saw two very good ones this year, Chronicle and Troll Hunter (I'm not counting Troll Hunter on this list though, because it came out in 2011). I like the concept of people with superpowers who don't become superheroes and I think it's a fairly accurate portrayal of what someone would actually do if they gained telekinetic powers: Have fun and use it to acquire p***y, at least that's what I'd do. I do think that Chronicle and Troll Hunter shouldn't have been in the found-footage format though. 2. Lobos De Arga - This is a Spanish horror-comedy in a similar style to Shaun of the Dead, except with werewolves instead of zombies and everyone speaks in Spanish. It's fun, goofy in a good way, and an all-round joy to watch. The werewolves do look a bit dumb though, but they get brownie points for being dudes in costumes instead of full CGI. 3. Skyfall - I will admit I'm not much of a Bond fan, but I found myself liking Skyfall. It's got good action, the plot isn't as hard to follow as people make it out to be, it feels very British (even though there are scenes in foreign countries...) and I genuinely liked it more than The Dark Knight Rises. Though it does lose points for the terrible song in the opening credits (Lurt da SKIIIIFFAAARRLLLL!!!!! Whurn et CRERRRMBERRRLZZ!!!!! Wur wurl STUND TAARRRRAARRAAALLL!!!!! ). 4. The Avengers - Okay so this may be a cliché answer but I still love this film to pieces. I like how every character is given a little bit of the spotlight (except maybe Hawkeye and Maria Hill) and how everything meshes together extremely well (except maybe Hawkeye and Maria Hill). This could have been the worst thing made by humans if they weren't careful, and it was a risky gamble, but thank Primus it turned out great! The only nitpicks I have are that Ant-Man and the Wasp aren't in there and Edward Norton didn't come back to play Bruce Banner. While Mark Ruffalo was awesome in the role, it is a bit sad that no one from The Incredible Hulk appeared in The Avengers (uncredited Lou Ferrigno performing the Hulk's roars doesn't count). Hell, even a William Hurt cameo would have done... 5. Rise of the Guardians - I've already talked about this film to death on these boards, so I'll do a quick summary: Beautiful, creative, charming, fun characters, Hugh Jackman playing the m*****f*****g Easter Bunny, there's a lot to love here. If this film was a woman I'd get a ring on her finger as soon as possible. 6. The Cabin in the Woods - I genuinely did think that this was just going to be another "Derp de doo some horny teenagers go to a cabin in the woods and get murdered" kind of film, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt because it was written by Joss Whedon, and I ended up loving it. It actually does what it says it's going to do and puts a new spin on that tired old trope, the Spoiler elevators with all the monsters and villains inside is creative ( Spoiler they must get bored out of their tiny minds in there though ) and I love all the little homages to other horror films (there's even a tiny homage to Left 4 Dead if you look carefully enough).
The Dark Knight Rises The Amazing Spider-Man The Avengers Prometheus Ted The Bourne Legacy Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy Argo Looper The Grey The Hunger Games * haven't seen The Hobbit or Skyfall yet
Judging from what I've seen: 1. The Avengers 2. The Dark Knight Rises 3. Prometheus 4. The Amazing Spider-Man 5. Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter Wreck It Ralph and Skyfall would be up there too but I haven't seen them yet.
1 The Expendables 2 2 The Dark Knight Rises 3 Marvel's the Avengers 4 Red Dawn 5 Trouble with the Curve 6 Red Tails 7 Amazing Spider-man 8 The Dictator Note* This list is every movie I've seen this year and it is basically favorite to least favorite/worst
1. Skyfall (I'm not a big fan of the Craig films, but I was completely blown away by this film) 2. The Dark Knight rises 3. Paranorman (this was a rather pleasant surprise, I especially liked that the stereotypical jock guy was actually gay, that was rather neat and actually took me by surprise) 4. The Pirates! In an adventure with scientists! (rather good, definitely Aardmans best film in a while, but lacked a lot of charm that their old films had. I still blame Flushed away) 5. The Lorax (although only really for the songs) 6. The Amazing spider-man (i'm only really including this because these are pretty much the only films i've seen this year, but man, what a disappointment this film was) ...... and I still haven't watched Avengers :/
In order: Dark Knight Rises Skyfall Dark Shadows... a mess, but atmospheric and fun Prometheus Looper would probably have been on the list, because I'm a big fan of the director, but I wasn't able to get to the theater for it. But maybe it will still make the list because the dvd/BD comes out just in time on Dec 31...
The Dictator I thought was honestly was Cohen's worst film. Skyfall Dark Night Rises Expendables Prometheus Amazing Spider-man Bourne Legacy
The Avengers The Amazing Spiderman Ice age: continental drift The lorax i love those fish and bears Got a feeling that Wreck it Wralph and legend of the gardeans will end on my list
1. The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The Avengers 3. The Dark Knight Rises 4. Jeff, Who Lives at Home 5. The Expendables 2
The Dark Knight Rises is the only 2012 movie that I've actually seen, so I guess that's it for right now. I do plan to see The Hobbit during Christmas vacation, and Prometheus is in my pile of stuff to watch, so those may end up on the list.
