Just as the title says, what were the movies and TV shows that got your butt planted on the couch with your face inches away from the screen? Some of my favorite shows were: Regular Show Adventure Time Thundercats (2011) Over the garden wall Steven Universe Mighty Magiswords O.K., K.O.! Let's be Heroes Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012) The Legend of Korra iZombie Marlon The Avengers series were awesome. I pretty much enjoyed most of the Marvel superhero movies. Logan had me crying manly tears. When it comes to Planet of the Apes, my dad watched the originals as a young man but his opinion is Rise, Dawn and War are way better. Jurassic World was a great return. The T-Rex appearing to battle the I-Rex had my jaw dropping. T-REX says I'M BACK, B!TCHES! Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island: that's freakin' entertainment! have not seen KotM yet but I am excited to see Godzilla vs. Kong next year. Man. Coco had me crying, Dia de los muertos is always sad since 2005 when my cousin passed away, another cousin four years later and the murder of my uncle a few years ago. I don't like Seth McFarland's animated TV shows but Ted, Ted 2 and A million ways to die in the West were hilarious.
Without a doubt, Thanos’ snap in 2018 solidified the MCU as the defining pop culture franchise of the decade, for me and a whole lot of other people. Other than that, my favorite new 2010s shows were Walking Dead and Steven Universe. Other big movies for me were the Sequel Trilogy, Coco, Jurassic World, and Django Unchained. Big video games were the Kingdom Hearts series, Assassin’s Creed III-IV, the High Moon Cybertron games, and Treyarch Zombies.
My favorite movie of the decade (and of all time) is Get Out. I think it Get Out is one of two films from this decade that represents the tension between different groups of people in this decade. I will recommend this film to quite literally anyone who asks. My favorite show of the decade is BoJack Horseman. It is masterfully made and doesn't hold back from forcing the titular character to change himself for the better.
Good idea for a thread. I’ll have to think about it a bit, but for now I’ll say the modern Planet of the Apes trilogy is easily one of the highlights of the decade. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)
The films I enjoyed the most during this decade were (in no particular order) John Wick, John Wick 2, The Last Jedi, Looper, Ex Machina, The Invitation, and Pacific Rim. Archer has probably been my show of the decade.
It's hard to believe we're at the end of this decade. 2010 doesn't feel that long ago. And yet somehow it does at the same time. The first Guardians of the Galaxy is probably my favorite movie of this decade. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any other movies that are as entertaining on pretty much every level. Almost perfect blend of comedy, characters, adventure, music, and emotion. It has something for everyone, it was an instant classic (something that I feel is fairly rare these days), and it's basically the only MCU property that appeals to a large amount of non-Marvel/superhero fans. I didn't see this movie until it came out on DVD, (I probably even knew the spoilers to an extent) and I was still floored by it. And I'm still floored by this movie's wider cultural impact. I've never seen a movie propel such unknown characters to household names practically overnight. Groot and Rocket became popular with people who don't even like sci-fi/superhero stuff. You can see a Baby Groot at grandma's house. People still hum Hooked on a Feeling five years later. People still quote the dialog. I don't think I've seen a movie become such a crazy sensation before or since. Sure, stuff like Endgame is popular and widespread, but almost every aspect of GOTG had an insane viral impact, and it's still hanging around half-a-decade later. Being popular is great, but I find unexpected hits like this a lot more interesting. I hate to sound like I'm overstating the movie, but I truly believe GOTG will be remembered as the movie of this decade in the years and decades to come. Bumblebee is up there too, sometimes a bit more than GOTG for me on a personal level. I feel like GOTG has more going for it on an 'objective level' (it's definitely more culturally significant), but Bumblebee is possibly more important for me personally. I love Transformers, and have waited the majority of my life (quite literally) to see a well-done retro-style Transformers movie. To finally see that on-screen was a blast, and definitely one of my top theater-going experiences. Considering my other top experiences were The Force Awakens and maybe The Hobbit movies, Bumblebee is the only one that's actually stayed solid for me. I also love (more or less in order) Toy Story 3, How to Train Your Dragon, Despicable Me, Tin Tin, Pacific Rim, The Lego Movie, The Martian, Doctor Strange, and Rogue One. And there's a lot more than that, but those are some standouts for me, and they're ones I can return to often. I enjoyed a good amount of Pixar's, Disney's, and Marvel's movies throughout the 2010s in general. As far as TV shows go...The Mandalorian? I watch next to no (modern) television, so I'm not sure I can even give a list. I've seen some of the Transformers stuff, but I haven't really loved any of those, frankly.
I'll start with television series. Obviously watched a lot more than just these, but these are the ones I consider all out favorites and/or at least thoroughly enjoyed: - Game of Thrones - Sherlock - Luther - Broadchurch - What We Do In The Shadows - Veep - Silicon Valley - Narcos - Justified - Orange Is The New Black - Stranger Things - Parks & Recreation * - New Girl - Bloodline - The Fall - The Bodyguard - Happy Valley - The Americans - Kidding - Better Call Saul - Fargo - Mindhunter - GLOW - True Detective (sans S2) - Last Week Tonight - Drunk History - Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt - Brooklyn Nine-Nine - Westworld - The Good Place - Barry - Killing Eve - The Walking Dead (Season 1 only) - Fleabag - Better Things - The Deuce - Euphoria - Big Mouth - Sharp Objects - Chernobyl - Patrick Melrose - The Boys - Dead to Me - The Mandalorian * technically started in 2009 but its main full run started in 2010
Let's see... I'm going to try to limit myself to a top ten otherwise I'll be here listing things all night... Top ten films with honorable mentions- Avengers Captain America: The Winter Soldier Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Godzilla: King of the Monsters It: Chapters I & II Rampage Black Panther Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Kong: Skull Island Thor: Ragnarok Avengers: Infinity War & Endgame Bumblebee Deadpool Jungle Book Hotel Transylvania Incredibles 2 Frozen Pacific Rim Rogue One Top ten tv shows with honorable mentions- The Mandalorian Carnival Row Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes Castlevania Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012) Voltron: Legendary Defender Trollhunters Dragon Prince Young Justice Stranger Things Defiance Lucifer Daredevil Dragon Ball Super Duck Tales Avatar: The Legend of Korra Adventure Time Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Green Lantern: The Animated Series Justice League Action Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown Titans 3 Below Star Wars: Rebels Big Mouth Transformers: Cyberverse My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Thundercats (2011) Transformers: Prime
I think the easiest way for me to do this would just be for me to list my 3 favorite movies of each year of the decade. 2010: How To Train Your Dragon, Tron: Legacy, Inception 2011: Fast Five, Captain America: The First Avenger, X-Men: First Class 2012: The Avengers, Django Unchained, Argo 2013: Wolf of Wall Street, Fast and Furious 6, Hunger Games: Catching Fire 2014: Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 2015: The Martian, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, Sicario 2016: The Nice Guys, Captain America: Civil War, Hacksaw Ridge 2017: Logan, Baby Driver, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 2018: Infinity War, Mission Impossible: Fallout, Into the Spiderverse 2019: Ford v. Ferrari, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, Avengers: Endgame As for TV, this one is a little tougher. At this point, I kinda consider the 2010’s to be the decade of shows that started off great and then just declined from there. Season 1 of Mr. Robot and Bloodline are some of the finest television I’ve ever seen, but the following seasons just didn’t live up to the greatness they started out with. We all know how Game of Thrones ended. Walking Dead used to be my favorite show and the one show that brought my family together, but it’s starting to lose my interest. The CW DC shows and the Marvel Netflix stuff started off great, but I eventually lost interest. I’m probably going to go with Stranger Things and Vikings as my favorites because those shows have just been so consistent for me. Even when the writing disappoints in Stranger Things, I still enjoy the characters enough to have fun with the show. Vikings really knows how to stay fresh, and always grabs my attention. Justified was excellent almost all the way through as well and highly underrated. Peaky Blinders is amazing too, and I’m really looking forward to next season. I’m loving The Mandalorian so far, but we’re only 4 episodes in. Young Justice and Tron: Uprising would probably be my favorite animated shows of the decade.
Dont really watch many movies so just limited mine to 3 per year or less with some exceptions of more. Had to look up movies to kind of register what I had seen/still stood out to me and what year it was. 2010 Toy Story 3 The Town 2011 Captain America: The First Avenger Puss In Boots The Artist 2012 Skyfall The Avengers Argo Wreck-It Ralph 2013 Iron Man 3 2014 Interstellar John Wick Big Hero 6 Captain America: The Winter Soldier 2015 Star Wars: The Force Awakens Inside Out The Martian 2016 Zootopia 2017 Thor: Ragnarok John Wick: Chapter 2 Star Wars: The Last Jedi 2018 Avengers: Infinity War Bumblebee 2019 Avengers: Endgame John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker TV shows Kinda tough to assemble a list because of shows that ended this decade, started this decade, started + ended or still going. All that aside I’ll just list anything that falls within the decade. The Mandalorian Better Call Saul Stranger Things The Walking Dead Halt And Catch Fire Silicon Valley Portlandia Baskets Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee Transformers Prime Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012) Breaking Bad Mad Men The Office Parks And Recreation
Oh god. I don't know. We've still got another year to go for this decade, but I guess as of this moment... Favorite movies: The Captain America trilogy Rise of the Planet of the Apes Dawn of the Planet of the Apes The MCU Spider-Man films Avengers Infinity War and Endgame Get Out It (both chapters) Logan Lucky The Nice Guys Kubo and the Two Strings Doctor Sleep Halloween 2018 Coco Inside Out TV Shows: Breaking Bad (does this count though this it started in 2009?) Better Call Saul Flash Seasons 1-3 A Series of Unfortunate Events Voltron Legendary Defender Stranger Things Sherlock Anime: Tiger & Bunny Psycho Pass Gundam Unicorn Toku: Ultraman Orb Gokaiger Kamen Rider Gaim
There was no Year 0, so decades are 1-10, not 0-9 in my book. If you think otherwise, nothing wrong with that, but that's how it is for me.
Some of my fav TV shows: Luther (2010 –) Sherlock (2010 – 2017) Game of Thrones (2011 – 2019) Black Mirror (2011 –) American Horror Story (2011 –) Hannibal (2013 - 2015) The Americans (2013 – 2018) True Detective (seasons 1 & 3 - 2014 & 2019) Silicon Valley (2014 –) The Strain (2014 – 2017) Broad City (2014 - 2019) Tyrant (2014 – 2016) Mr. Robot (2015 –) Stranger Things (2016 –) Westworld (2016 –) Atlanta (2016 –) Mindhunter (2017 –) Snowfall (2017 –) The Haunting of Hill House (2018 –) Kidding (2018 –) Barry (2018 –) Succession (2018 -) The Boys (2019 –) Honorable mention to Always Sunny -- yeah, it started in 2005, but I got into it late, and some of my fav episodes are from 2010 onward.

Off the top of my head and in no particular order for TV - Halt and Catch Fire, Bojack, Westworld, Twin Peaks S3, The Americans, True Detective, the first half of GOT, Narcos, Better Call Saul. Breaking Bad and Mad Men if shows that started in the 00s count. Would have to sit down and look at a list for movies, although Blade Runner 2049 is easily my favourite of the decade.
