You are confusing overrated with overexposed. He's not overrated because he IS great, and there's a reason he is liked by so many people, including me. But he absolutely was and is overexposed, because they take what is great about him and run it into the ground. As the line went on, more and more focus went onto the ninjas, forgetting about the soldier stuff the franchise was created to be about. When you get to this point: ...where the name "SNAKE-EYES" is completely overshadowing the title of the book on the covers, you know something has gone seriously wrong. You would almost think the title of the series was "Snake-Eyes and Ninja Force" instead of "GI Joe" who became guest stars in their own book. All the focus was on the ninjas, and to make things worse, the ninjas (especially Scarlet) now all looked like super-heroes. They only changed the title back to "GI Joe" for the final 10 issues of the series. At least IDW had the decency to give Snake-Eyes his own book, rather than completely hijacking their Joe series. But it's still a bit too much. He's more interesting when he's part of a cast working with other characters, not on his own or with only Storm Shadow.
