It... it didn't. With that logic, TF5 ripped off Civil War which ripped off Batman Vs. Superman.

There is a difference between common tropes and ripping off another movie. A character that was a good guy turns into the bad guy is a story element that is about as old as story telling. So you can't say that the Last Knight is 100% original with what we think some of the plot points might be.

Rip off is more of when something is so similar that it's almost impossible to not get the feeling that something was outright stolen from another film. Like how the Transmorphers trailer ripped off Transformers.

It's as if both film productions were given the same script and the only alterations they did is changing the characters to the ones from their own respective franchises. Making the main protagonist turning their back on their friends and families is probably just following 'versus' trend that current films are doing but when both films include scenes with submarines, damn, that's one hell a coincidence!

It's not a rip off because both stories are completely different,so wait untill both movies come out.

It ripped off whatever you think it ripped off.

Transformers 5 has hardly "ripped" off anything has it. Optimus has been bad in the 80s.

I don't care. I go to Transformers to see Transformers and F&F alike.

You can do that with a lot of movies, though. Especially the big budget ones that are hedging on CGI/wow factor instead of story to draw audiences in. The more eggs they have in the CGI/action basket, the more likely it seems they'll use a trope.

    Everything ripped off Transformers.

    Also...

    Transformers ripped off everything.

    Also...

So who's now gonna say Fate of the Furious' director will be the PERFECT replacement for Bay for the TF movies?

Ugh. No. I'm looking forward to ROGUE ONE, but I HATED GODZILLA (2014). So boringly, awfully paced. Dull as shite.

No from me. Should always be Bay or someone not named Gareth or Edwards.

I think that whoever takes over Transformers they should have experience directing movies featuring big robots.
How about Leigh Scott - IMDb

All I've learned from this thread is that what I thought was a typo in the movie's title was in fact.....not a typo.

Given when the scripts for each movie were written, when each film was shot, and how close the trailers came out to each other the only way The Fate Of The Furious could have ripped off Transformers 5 is if Universal sent someone to Paramount to steal the script to Transformers 5, spied on all the shooting, or had someone in the room on their cell phone as the Transformers trailer was put together.
