I did think it was odd that in Draven's post it referred to "Playstation punters".
Now I know what that means.

"A problem with the PS3 has left many owners unable to access the PlayStation Network or, worse, play many games – including this week’s number one title, Heavy Rain."

So.. uh.. not any different than usual, right?

    I keed.

    Please don't hurt me :(

Well, it was funny in 2006 AND 2007.

But since it's 1999 and we have a second chance at giving the joke new life...

    we're getting an abortion.

So Sony tried to send the PS3 back in time to kill its rivals and win the console wars?

If they had won the war, then there wouldn't be any more competitors. It more like they won that generation battle. Besides, it ruins my Skynet analogy.

Those types of words usually precede "Dammit I RRODed" threads, so tread carefully ;)

I have a skinny, so I'm not worried either.

The thing that gets me is that when I moved to my new apartment and didn't have internet, I could still play games offline, so what is happening that is affecting the PS3 to the point of not allowing me to play offline games.

NeoGaf thinks its a calendar problem. A way that the old hardware handles Leap Years. The Zune had a similar problem a few years ago. Apparently Debug units are affected as well.

Its all just mob speculation though. Not sure if mine is buggered, I haven't had the power switch turned on for a while now.

If it is an internal calender issue, then its most likely down to a conflict with the system itself. If one conflict exists then maybe the next process to be run can't due to this ealier conflict causing whatever is needed to start the games not to run also. I have no idea how a PS3 works but obviously one thing can lead onto another and cause bigger problems.

Its a big issue if offline consoles are affected, as its not as if a patch can be downloaded to those without an internet connection.

But I don't think those who have been offline are affected because my friend has no issues. Basically, he wasn't online to get the disease. Assuming it's not calendar-based. I wonder if anyone has tried to just change the date on their PS3.

I don't think it will work, saves and Trophies are time stamped. Trophie checking will reset the consoles date and time settings.

Its still just speculation right now but its all I've read at Kotaku -

also, I love how Twitter has become a defacto direct news source. Battlefield 1943 (when it launched poorly) updates were coming from twitter too, nothing from the official site.
